Charlotte Checkers News Release

CHARLOTTE, N.C. - Charlotte Checkers general manager and head coach Jeff Daniels announced today the team has signed forward A.J. Jenks to a professional tryout contract.

Jenks, 24, played 63 games for Charlotte over the last three seasons, scoring 17 points (7g, 10a). The 6-foot-2, 200-pound native of Wolverine Lake, MI, opened the current season with one scoreless game for the ECHL's Toledo Walleye. He will be available for the Checkers' back-to-back games in Iowa starting Friday night.

The Florida Panthers' fourth-round draft choice (100th overall) in 2008, Jenks initially joined the Checkers following a trade between the Panthers and Carolina Hurricanes in January of 2012. Following the expiration of his NHL contract in 2013, he has now signed PTOs with the Checkers in back-to-back seasons after starting each at the ECHL level.

In 151 total AHL games with Rochester, San Antonio and Charlotte, Jenks recorded 38 points (15g, 23a) and 101 penalty minutes. He set ECHL career highs with 35 points (18g, 17a) in 41 games for the Florida Everblades last season.

The Checkers next return home to face the Hamilton Bulldogs on Friday, Oct. 31 (12 p.m. start - kids under 12 get in free), and Sunday, Nov. 2 (1 p.m. start).
