Portland Beavers News Release

PORTLAND, Ore. - Tommy Murphy tallied a career-high seven RBIs and capped a six-run sixth inning with a three-run home run as the Salt Lake Bees defeated the Portland Beavers 11-8 before 5,248 Tuesday afternoon at PGE Park.

With four hits, Murphy led a group of four Bees with two or more hits, including Brian Specht, who went 3-for-5 with three runs scored and a solo home run in the ninth.

Paul McAnulty extended his personal hitting streak to nine games and clubbed his second home run in as many games for Portland. Jack Cust added a two-run clout in the eighth and joined McAnulty with three RBIs in the game.

The Bees (12-7) trailed 5-3 going into the sixth after McAnulty's three-run shot gave Portland its second lead of the game a half-inning earlier. The lead was short-lived, however, as Kendry Morales belted a game-tying two-run shot off Jack Cassel to start the sixth. Erick Aybar put the Bees ahead with an RBI single and Murphy's three-run homer off Ryan Meaux capped the frame.

Neither starter factored in the decision. Matt Wilhite (1-1) got the win for Salt Lake, and Jason Bulger picked up his second save of the series. Cassel (1-1) suffered his first loss of the year for the Beavers.

Murphy put the Bees ahead for the first time with a three-run double in the top of the fifth and later added an RBI single.

The Beavers (9-10) took a 2-0 lead in the third on an RBI single from Cust, who eventually scored on a sac fly by Jon Knott.

The Beavers have their first scheduled off day of the season on Wednesday before beginning a four-game series against the Fresno Grizzlies Thursday at PGE Park.

NOTES: McAnulty is hitting .429 during his nine-game hitting streak ... the Beavers drew nine walks, including seven off Salt Lake starter Chris Bootcheck. Cust walked three times and scored three runs ... the game was the second of three Art & Science of Baseball School Days this season ... at three hours, 36 minutes, it was the longest game of the season ... Curtis Pride struck out four times for Salt Lake ... both teams used five pitchers ... the Beavers are now 6-1 in day games.
