THE OPPOSITION: The Redbirds will welcome the New Orleans Zephyrs to AutoZone Park for a four game series beginning Monday, May 1. Memphis will then host the Iowa Cubs for four games to round out an eight-game homestand. The 'Birds are 4-4 this season at AZP and have won three of their last four games in Memphis.
HOMESTAND HIGHLIGHTS: Monday, May 1, Rock 103 will host the Great Unsigned Showcase concert in the entry plaza following the game. Tuesday, May 2, will mark the second "Time Warner Tuesday" of the 2006 season. The first 1,500 fans will receive a pad and pen set courtesy of Time Warner Cable. Also, Tuesday fans can participate in the Kix 106 Kix Karaoke festivities in the entry plaza before the game. The first, First Tennessee "Working Money Wednesday" will be held May 3, in conjunction with the Redbirds second Business Persons Special matinee game of the year. The first 1,500 fans will receive an envelope enclosed with cash ranging from $1 to $100. Castrol is sponsoring equipment bag giveaways to the first 1,500 kids on Thursday, May 4 and a Fireworks Extravaganza will follow the Redbirds game with Iowa on Friday, May 5. Kids will have the chance to run the bases following the game on Sunday, May 7.
WORKING HARD FOR THE MONEY: One of the Redbirds most popular giveaways is making its return to AutoZone Park on Wednesday, May 3. "Working Money Wednesday," sponsored by First Tennessee Bank, will take place in conjunction with the 'Birds matinee game beginning at 1:10. The first 1,500 fans through the gates of AZP will receive and envelope enclosed with cash ranging from $1 to $100.
ON THE TUBE: Four of the Redbirds eight games on this homestand will be televised on Time Warner Cable. The first game slated for the tube is Tueday, May 2 vs. New Orleans at 7 p.m. Fans can also do some afternoon Bird watching Wednesday, May 3 beginning at 1 p.m. You can also catch Memphis on Time Warner Cable Friday, May 5, at 7 p.m. and Saturday, May 6, at 1p.m., as they take on the Iowa Cubs.
LIGHT UP THE SKIES: A post-game Fireworks Extravaganza will be held at AutoZone Park on Friday, May 5. Fans will want to stick around following the Redbirds game with the Iowa Cubs to see a great fireworks display in the heart of downtown Memphis. The Redbirds game with Iowa is scheduled to start at 7:10 p.m., with the fireworks show to begin shortly after the conclusion of the game.
LOOKING AHEAD: The Redbirds will enjoy two eight-game homestands in the month of May with an eight-game road trip in between. The 'Birds will head west following their final game with Iowa on Monday, May 8. Memphis will take on Las Vegas and Tucson for the first time this season before returning home to face Portland and Tacoma. The Beavers and 'Birds will square off beginning Thursday, May 18. Memphis will wrap up the home portion of its schedule for the month of May against the Rainiers on Thursday, May 25.
