Tucson Sidewinders News Release
Tucson, AZ - Tucson pitchers put up another solid performance to sweep the four game series from Colorado Springs by a final of 3-2. After allowing the Sky Sox to put up a run in each of the first two innings, Tucson starter RHP Dustin Nippert settled down and with the help of solid bullpen work, kept the Sox scoreless through the rest of the game, earning the Sidewinders a five-game win streak.
2B Bo Hart singled and moved to third when the next batter C J.D. Closser singled through the hole at second base. 1B Carlos Rivera then knocked in Hart on a sacrifice fly to right.
The Sidewinders took two at-bats to tie the game. Leadoff hitter 2B Alberto Callaspo singled to right and was knocked in on a SS Stephen Drew triple.
Colorado Springs retook the lead in the top of the second when Sky Sox starter RHP Sun-Woo Kim walked and later scored on a Hart single to left, making the score 2-1.
The Sidewinders took the lead in the bottom of the 3rd. Drew hit a two-out single to right-center and advanced to second base on a throwing error by RF Sean Barker. 1B Kenny Perez followed that up with a single to right, scoring Drew. LF Scott Hairston singled to left to knock in Perez, putting Tucson up 3-2, where the score would stay for the rest of the game.
Nippert turned it over to the bullpen after 5 innings pitched. He allowed 2 runs on 7 hits and 3 walks. He set down 6 Sky Sox on strikes. LHP Mike Bacsik, LHP Randy Choate, RHP Casey Daigle and RHP Jeff Bajenaru each worked a scoreless inning. Combined, the bullpen gave up only 2 hits, 2 walks and struck out 4. Rehabbing starter RHP Sun-Woo Kim threw 67 pitches in 3 2/3 innings of work. He picked up the loss, allowing 3 runs on 8 hits, fanning 3 Sidewinders.
Most of the 8,517 fans in attendance were children from Tucson area schools as part of D.A.R.E./GREAT Day at Tucson Electric Park. The Sidewinders have an off day on Wednesday before picking up the homestand on Thursday against Sacramento at 6:30. The game can be heard live on Cool 1450.
