Beavers add Jon Adkins to roster, Walter Young released

PORTLAND, Ore. - The Portland Beavers today added right-handed pitcher Jon Adkins to the active roster and announced that first baseman Walter Young has been released by the San Diego Padres, the team's major league affiliate.

Adkins returns to the Beavers after making three appearances with the Padres. With San Diego, he was 0-1 with a 10.11 ERA (3er, 2.2ip) in three relief appearances. Adkins is 1-0 with a 0.00 ERA and two saves in five appearances with the Beavers this season. He had his contract purchased by the Padres on April 18 and was optioned back to Portland on April 23 when outfielder Mike Cameron was reinstated from the disabled list.

Young batted .200 (7-for-35) with three home runs and six RBIs in 13 games with Portland.

The Beavers' active roster is at its 24-man limit.
