
Murphy and Hertzler Promoted to Triple-A

Portland, Maine- Portland Sea Dogs outfielder David Murphy and right-hand pitcher Barry Hertzler have been promoted to Triple-A Pawtucket. Outfielder Chris Durbin and left-hand pitcher Randy Beam were activated from the disabled list.
Murphy, the Sea Dogs MVP in 2005 and the Red Sox 2005 Minor League Defensive Player of the Year, hit.273 in 42 games with three home runs and a team high 25 RBI for the Sea Dogs in 2006. He leads the Eastern League with 17 doubles. On Sunday May 21st Murphy had a career day in what has turned out to be his last game played at Hadlock Field. Murphy went 5-5 with three doubles, a triple, drove in five runs, and scored twice. He set franchise records with four extra base hits in a game and five RBI in one inning. He also tied franchise records with five hits in a game and three doubles in a game. Portland defeated the New Hampshire Fisher Cats (Blue Jays) 12-5 after exploding for 11 runs in the eighth inning. Murphy, 24 years-old, was a first round draft pick (17th overall) of the Boston Red Sox in the June 2003 draft.
Hertzler, 25 years-old, has appeared in 16 games for Portland this season posting no record with four saves and a 1.05 ERA. Hertzler was drafted by the Red Sox in the 11th round of the June 2003 draft. Hertzler was born in Providence, Rhode Island and attended Central Connecticut State University. He currently resides in Bristol, Connecticut. His younger brother Brad recently signed a letter of intent to pitch for the University of Maine Black Bears.
Durbin and Beam have both been on the disabled list since May 3rd. The 24 year-old Durbin had been sidelined since suffering a bruised oblique muscle in a collision with shortstop Zach Borowiak on April 23rd in Harrisburg. In 12 games with the Sea Dogs Durbin is hitting .261. He was a 10th round draft pick of the Red Sox in the June 2003 draft. In 2005, he was selected to the Eastern League All-Star Game. Beam, 24 years-old, appeared in six games for Portland before being placed on the disabled list, he was 1-1 with a 2.16 ERA. Beam was selected by the Red Sox in the 18th round of the June 2004 draft.
