B-Mets Take Advantage of Trenton Miscues To Snap Skid

Binghamton Rumble Ponies News Release

The Binghamton Mets picked up just four hits, but took advantage of three Trenton Thunder errors en route to a 3-2 victory over the Thunder in the series opener at Waterfront Park Friday. The win ends Binghamton's losing streak at four games.

Binghamton (21-27) opened the scoring with a pair in the second. After back-to-back one-out singles by Jay Caligiuri and Corey Ragsdale put runners at first and second, Ray Navarrete followed with a groundball up the middle that went under the glove of pitcher Steven White for an error, allowing Caligiuri to score. Yunir Garcia then grounded out to third, bringing home Ragsdale for a 2-0 Binghamton lead.

Trenton (22-25) would answer with a pair of their own. In the fourth, Gabe Lopez drew a leadoff walk, moved to second on Orlando Roman's wild pitch, to third on Bronson Sardinha's single and scored on a Randy Ruiz sacrifice fly. The Thunder tied the game in the next inning when J.T. Stotts reached on a two-out single before Lopez drove him in with a double to right.

Caligiuri started Binghamton's winning rally in the ninth with a one-out double off reliever J. Brent Cox (1-2) before Ragsdale reached on an error by Trenton third baseman Kevin Howard. After Kevin Rios came in to pinch-run for Caligiuri at second, Navarrete hit a ground ball up the middle. Trenton was able to force out Ragsdale at second, but Corey's takeout slide upended Stotts, the shortstop, causing him to throw wildly to first, allowing Rios to score. All three of Binghamton's runs were unearned.

Matt Lindstrom (1-0) tossed 1 2/3 innings in his first B-Mets outing of the year, earning the win. Ivan Maldonado struck out two in a 1-2-3 ninth to nail down his second save. Saturday, the B-Mets play the second game of their four-game set with Trenton. Lefty William Collazo (3-3, 2.35) gets the ball for Binghamton against Trenton's Philip Hughes (1-1, 3.91) Game time is 7:05 from Waterfront Park with the Horizons Federal Credit Union Pre-Game Show kicking off the broadcast at 6:50 on Newsradio 1290 WNBF.
