May 26, 2006 - Eastern League (EL1)
Erie SeaWolves News Release

ALTOONA CURVE (30-17, 1st PLACE, 0.0 GB)

vs.

ERIE SEAWOLVES (23-23, 4th PLACE, 6.5 GB)

OVERVIEW -

The SeaWolves nine-game winning streak was snapped on Thursday afternoon in Harrisburg by a final score of 7-5. The streak was the longest for Erie since the 2004 season when the team won 10-straight on May 5 through May 15. Despite falling in the series finale in Harrisburg, the SeaWolves clinched the season series against the Senators by taking nine of the 17 meetings in 2006 (Erie will host Harrisburg for three more games June 16-18 at Jerry Uht Park). Overall, the SeaWolves have won 11 of their last 13.

Altoona comes to town on a four-game winning streak and is in first place in the Southern Division. Their 30-17 record is tops in the Eastern League. The Curve has won both series against the SeaWolves this season, including taking three of four in the first meeting at Jerry Uht Park. Through seven games, the Curve has outscored the SeaWolves 40-21. The SeaWolves are batting just .208 against Altoona while the Curve is batting .306 in those seven games.

Thursday's loss for Erie was only the sixth of the season when the SeaWolves scored first in a game. The seven runs given up in that game is the most Erie has surrendered since falling 7-3 at Harrisburg on May 7.

The SeaWolves are currently on a four-game winning streak at home. Erie is one of only three teams with a winning record on the road and one of four teams with a sub-.500 record at home.

CASEY TO REHAB WITH ALTOONA AT JERRY UHT PARK

The Pittsburgh Pirates have announced that first baseman Sean Casey will join the Altoona Curve on a rehab assignment for three games this weekend at Jerry Uht Park.

Casey is expected to play first base on Friday, May 26 and Saturday, May 27, and then be in the designated hitter role on Sunday, May 28.

He went on the 15-day disabled list on April 15, 2006 with transverse fractures in left lower back.

Altoona was chosen for the rehab assignment because the Pirates Triple-A Affiliate, Indianapolis, is playing on artificial turf this weekend.

Casey has only appeared in nine games for the Bucco's in 2006. In those games he went 10 for 32 (.313) at the plate with three doubles, two home runs and five RBI. He was acquired by the Pirates on December 8, 2005 from the Cincinnati Reds for pitcher Dave Williams.

Casey is the second Major Leaguer to rehab in Erie this season. The Detroit Tigers Dmitri Young played in two games with the SeaWolves May 3-4.
