Reno, NV - Kevin Mulvey spun 6 2/3 scoreless innings to help Reno down Omaha, 5-1, in the opener of a four-game set between division leaders Tuesday night at Aces Ballpark. The Storm Chasers dropped to 18-14 but maintained their four-game lead over Iowa in the American Conference North Division.

Mulvey, who entered the game with a 10.92 earned run average and having allowed the most runs of any Minor League pitcher, yielded five hits, walked three and struck out five to earn his second win of the season. Reno improved to 21-12 and continues to lead Salt Lake by five games in the Pacific Conference North Division.

Brandon Allen doubled in a run and scored on Cole Gillespie's fielder's choice grounder to put the Aces in front 2-0 in the third inning.

Blake Johnson, making a spot start for Omaha after the sudden promotion of scheduled hurler Vin Mazzaro to the Kansas City Royals, was lifted after giving up back-to-back singles to open the fourth.

Greg Holland took over and allowed an RBI double to Evan Frey, the first batter he faced, and a run-scoring ground out to Tony Abreu that pushed the Reno advantage to four.

Mike Moustakas broke the shutout bid by the hosts with a one-out solo home run, his sixth of the year, off Daniel Stange in the eighth inning.

The series continues Wednesday night with Omaha right-hander Jeff Suppan taking the hill against Reno right-hander Barry Enright. Coverage of the game gets underway at 8:45 p.m. and can be heard locally on KOIL AM 1180 and online at omahastormchasers.com.
