MEMPHIS, TN - The Redbirds and River Cats battled back and forth during Tuesday night's game at AutoZone Park in an eventual 10-8 Memphis victory.
Matt Carpenter led the way for the 'Birds, driving in four of the club's 10 runs off a pair of two-run doubles and went 3-for-4 on the night. Memphis collected seven runs in the first four innings, only to have Sacramento score four runs in the second off a leadoff home run by Anthony Recker and a three-run dinger from Shane Peterson while picking up two more runs in the fourth, cutting the lead to one run.
The River Cats took an 8-7 lead in the sixth after picking up a run in the fifth inning and sending Steve Tollenson home on Matt Carson's base hit to center field for their last run of the game.
Sacramento reliever Willie Erye loaded the bases in the bottom of the seventh with three consecutive walks before being replaced by Vinnie Chulk who walked in the 'Birds tying run and gave up an RBI-single to Jim Rapoport, pushing Memphis in the lead. Ramon Vazquez picked up an insurance run for the Redbirds in the eighth plating Andrew Brown on his second RBI-single of the night.
