New Orleans Baby Cakes News Release

Tom Koehler matched his career high by working eight shutout innings, and Chris Aguila extended his hitting streak to seven games with a two-run homer to give the New Orleans Zephyrs a 3-0 victory over the Salt Lake Bees on Wednesday night.

Koehler (4-0) equaled his career-high in innings pitched, as he previously went eight innings twice in 2009 while pitching with Jamestown and Jupiter. Koehler also improved to 11-0 at home dating back to last season, when he pitched with Class AA Jacksonville.

Koehler yielded just five hits and struck out five in becoming the fourth Pacific Coast League hurler to reach four victories this season.

Aguila and Josh Kroeger continued to supply the power for the Zephyrs' offense, each hitting their team-leading sixth home runs on the year.

Aguila's two-run blast in the sixth broke a scoreless tie, and Kroeger provided an insurance run with a solo shot in the eighth.

Kroeger finished 3-for-4.

Vinny Rottino, who went 2-for-4, extended his consecutive on-base streak to 18 games, dating back to April 18th. He also has a seven-game hit streak, during which he has hit .560.

Jose Ceda picked up his league-leading 10 save of the year as he shut down the Bees in order to preserve the Zephyrs' league-high fifth shutout.

Bees starter Bear Bay (1-2) took the loss, as he went 6 2/3 innings, giving up two runs on nine hits.

The Zephyrs return to action on Thursday night at 7 p.m. for game three of the four-game set against Salt Lake. Adalberto Mendez (1-3) takes the mound for the Zephyrs as he faces off against Eric Junge (0-2).
