Mudcats Roll Past Suns on Monday

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - Cameron Maybin went four-for-five with a homerun, Lee Mitchell drove home five runs and Ryan Tucker pitched seven scoreless innings allowing three hits as the Carolina Mudcats (18-13) picked up an 11-1 win over the Jacksonville Suns (14-17) in front of 6,197 on Monday at the Baseball Grounds of Jacksonville.

Carolina starter Ryan Tucker (2-1) picked up the win after pitching seven scoreless innings with three hits, one walk and five strikeouts. Jacksonville starter Mario Alvarez (0-4) fell in the loss after allowing four runs one seven hits in four innings.

The Mudcats started the scoring early as Marlins top prospect Cameron Maybin (4) belted a two-run homerun for a 2-0 lead. John Raynor (4) led off the third inning with a homerun for a 3-0 Carolina lead. Later in the inning, Lee Mitchell, brother of Suns infielder Russell, singled home Cameron Maybin for a 4-0 Mudcats advantage.

Carolina continued scoring in the fifth inning against reliever Rick Asadoorian, scoring on a Lee Mitchell single and Alberto Concepcion fielder's choice for a 6-0 lead. In the eighth inning, Lee Mitchell doubled home Maybin for a 7-0 lead. Alberto Concepcion next grounded out next to score Gaby Sanchez to open an 8-0 advantage.

The Carolina offense added three more runs against reliever Zach Hammes in the eighth inning. John Raynor hit a sacrifice fly that scored Manuel Mayorson for a 9-0 lead. Lee Mitchell's two-run double later in the inning opened an 11-0 lead.

Jacksonville pushed across a run in the ninth inning when Russell Mitchell's sacrifice fly scored Greg Jacobs, ending the scoring at 11-1.
