WEEKLY NOTES

Three Out of Four in Six Ain't Bad

Yesterday's 4-1 victory over Corpus Christi finished off a set of four games in six days for the Mudbugs, who won three of the four contests. Two of those three victories came during a three-game road trip spanning from Tuesday in Mississippi on to Missouri and concluding Saturday in Corpus Christi. Including their return trip from south Texas, the 'Bugs traveled over 2,200 miles and rolled through eight states last week. The 'Bugs have enjoyed great success away from home this year, posting one of the best road records in the CHL at 14-7-4 to earn 32 of their 56 points on the road.

Time for "Pink in the Rink"

The Mudbugs' home games against Tulsa on Friday and Wichita on Saturday will compose the team's first "Pink in the Rink" Weekend, presented by Edible Arrangements. Pink in the Rink will be a total effort by the Mudbugs to increase breast cancer awareness in our community and raise money for the Northwest Louisiana affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure. The entire weekend will be themed in pink; from the pink ice the teams will skate on to the various pieces of hockey equipment, including specialty jerseys, that will be auctioned off to benefit the fight against breast cancer. The Mudbugs will also donate $1.00 of every individual and group ticket sold to benefit the cause. The Mudbugs will recognize breast cancer survivors throughout the weekend, and are encouraging fans to wear pink to the games to help us "Pink Out" the CTC.

Mangos Named Player of the Week

Defenseman Simon Mangos has been named this week's Oakley CHL Player of the Week today, which is also his 30th birthday. The second-year Mudbug totaled nine points (3g, 6a) in four games last week to go with a +4 rating and one game-winning goal. Mangos scored a goal and assisted on three others in Tuesday's 6-1 victory over Mississippi before scoring two goals (including the game-winner) in a 34-second span in Thursday's 3-1 triumph against Missouri. He then added assists on both Mudbugs goals Saturday in Corpus Christi and tacked on one more helper against the IceRays in Sunday's 4-1 win. Mangos is now tied for the team lead in scoring and tied for third among all CHL defensemen with 36 points (10g, 26a) this year.

Carroll Wins His 200th

Making his first start in three weeks Sunday against Corpus Christi, goaltender Ken Carroll stopped 33 shots on his way to being named the game's #1 star in a 4-1 win over the IceRays. The victory was the 200th of Carroll's ten-year professional career. The 5-10, 175-pounder is the third-winningest netminder in CHL history with 183 career victories, leaving him only four wins shy of tying Tony Martino for second in that category. All of those 183 wins have come during Carroll's nine seasons with Bossier-Shreveport, and he earned another 17 victories during one year in the ECHL to reach 200 career wins. Carroll (10-6-3) is tied for the league-lead in saves percentage and ranks third in goals-against average.

#700 for Blaznek

Forward Joe Blaznek played his 700th career game yesterday here in his 12th professional season. The Detroit, Michigan native is tied for the team lead in goals (15) and points (36) this year. Blaznek had four points during the recent road trip, including a three-point night (1g. 2a), in Tuesday's win over Mississippi. In 700 his pro games Blaznek has scored 303 goals and added 349 assists for a total of 652 points. He has also appeared in five All-Star games in his pro career.

Rutherford

Keeps Rolling

Forward David Rutherford recorded scored a goal Sunday to continue two impressive scoring streaks. Rutherford owns the longest active point streak in the CHL at 13 games and is tied for the league's longest goal scoring streak at four games. The second-year pro has racked up 19 points (11g, 8a) during the 13-game stretch and scored six goals in his last four games. Rutherford has recorded six multi-point games, a +13 rating and two game-winning goals during the scoring streak, which began on January 16. In only 28 games this season, he already ranks ninth on the team with 23 points.

Lucas Doesn't Miss a Beat

Forward Tyrel Lucas has picked up right where he left off since returning from a three-game injury absence on Feb. 5 Lucas had turned in three straight multi-point games, including back-to-back two goal performances, prior to being injured in the first period of a game at Allen on January 23. In six games since his return to the lineup, Lucas has notched one goal and six assists to give him 28 points (12g, 16a) in 32 games this year. Not counting his few shifts during the game in which he was hurt, Lucas has 13 points (5g, 8a) over his last nine full games played.

Jorgensen Into (and then out of) the Lineup

Defenseman Jim Jorgensen made his Mudbugs debut on Tuesday after being acquired in a trade-deadline deal with Wichita. The 2010 CHL All-Star registered an assist and a +1 rating before leaving the game in the second period with an injury. Jorgensen has missed three straight games coming into this week.

The 'Bugs acquired Jorgensen and the rights to forward Jason Deleurme (who is currently playing in Europe) in Monday's trade, which sent forward Neil Clark to the Thunder in return. Clark was in his second season with the Mudbugs.

Loose Pucks

The 'Bugs are a perfect 13-0 this year when they do not allow a powerplay goal.... Mudbugs players have combined for a total of 15 two-goal games this year without a single hat trick... G John DeCaro played his 100th game as a Mudbug on Thursday... F Shawn Limpright has 199 career assists...
