GAME RECAPS
THURSDAY, FEB. 11 vs. TUL (W 2-1): The Americans began a stretch of six games in eight days with a 2-1 overtime victory over the Oilers. Allen captain Jarret Lukin had the lone goal in the first period when he scored on the power play off of a rebound. The Oilers tied the game during the second period, but Bruce Graham ended the tie just 47 seconds into overtime with a top shelf shot to secure the extra point.
FRIDAY, FEB. 12 @ AMA (W 6-5 OT): Allen traveled to Amarillo for the first time and beat the Gorillas 6-5 in overtime. In a see-saw battle, the Americans didn't take their first lead until the third period. The club had goals from Nathan O'Nabigon, Tobias Whelan, Matt Radoslovich, Bruce Graham and Colton Yellow Horn in regulation before captain Jarret Lukin scored in overtime to send the Americans over the top.
SATURDAY, FEB. 13 @ TEX (L 4-1): The Americans broke out the red jerseys for the first time in North Richland Hills with the hopes of winning their first regular season game at NYTEX Sports Centre, but the club could not find the offense to beat the defending champions. The Brahmas scored three unanswered goals before the Tyler Wooddisse notched a power play goal in the third period. The physical game ended with an empty-net goal, which was followed by a fight between Mike Salekin and Nathan Perrott. Chris Kaufman, Brandon Straub and Liam Huculak were also involved in fights throughout the night. The game set a new record for the Americans for most combined penalty minutes in a game for both teams with 117. Newly acquired goaltender Alexandre Vincent made his debut for Allen with 30 saves.
UPCOMING GAMES
MONDAY, FEB. 15 vs. TEX at 1:00 p.m.: After a day of rest, Allen plays its fourth contest in a stretch of six games in eight days. The Americans hope to continue the hometown trend in the series with the Brahmas, as neither team has won in the other's building. The Americans are 3-3-1 against their cross-town rivals. Texas sits at 25-17-5 (55 points), which is third in the Southern Conference.
WEDNESDAY & THURSDAY, FEB. 17 & 18 @ ARZ at 8:05 p.m.: The Americans travel to Arizona for its second set of back-to-back games with the Southern Conference team. Allen opened its inaugural season with two wins in Arizona and then defeated the Sundogs 4-2 twice at home Nov. 19 and Jan. 18. Arizona is 18-26-5 (41 points) and is eighth place in the conference.
Whitley Gets Call: Netminder Chris Whitley became the third American in club history to get called up to the American Hockey League when Texas called him up Feb. 13. He joins former American Charlie Effinger and forward Justin Bowers as Americans that have been with AHL teams this season.
Vincent Makes Debut: Recent signee Alexandre Vincent starred in his first game for Allen Saturday against the Brahmas. The netminder made 30 saves on 33 shots. Vincent played in 20 games for the Missouri Mavericks earlier this season, earning eight wins. .886 save percentage.
First Gordie Howe Hat Trick: Rookie Tobias Whelan recorded the first Gordie Howe hat trick Friday, Feb. 12, against Amarillo when he fought Chris Cloud, grabbed a goal and notched three assists in the game.
Graham's Going Strong: After Thursday's contest, forward Bruce Graham leads the Americans in scoring. He has 56 points this season. Graham was the number one star Feb. 11 when he netted the game-winning goal.
Musitelli Red Hot: Winger Nino Musitelli, linemate of Bruce Graham, has 12 points in the last 10 games, the most of any American. He continues to hold the 2009-10 season record for longest point streak with 17 games. February 15, 2010
Jersey Debuts at Home Fuel Wins: The Americans debuted their silver third jerseys Jan. 23 on home ice and defeated the Mudbugs 5-1, giving the team an undefeated record in the new sweaters. The club then donned its all-blue jersey Jan. 29 and beat the IceRays 6-3. The team wore their blue jerseys at home again Feb. 6 against the Killer Bees and Thusday, Feb. 11, against Tulsa and won both contests, making them 3-0-0 at home in the dark uniforms.
Love the Lead: The Americans continue to dominate when leading after 40 minutes of play. Allen is 21-1-0 when it leads after two periods.
Whitley Continues to Lead League: Rookie goaltender Chris Whitley continues to lead the league in wins with 25. Odessa's Joel Martin is next in line with 18.
Fairbarn's Game-Winning Goals: Defenseman Ryan Fairbarn's game-winning goal Friday gave him the most on the team with six. Nathan O'Nabigon and Bruce Graham have five each, and Nino Musitelli has four. Fairbarn has the most out of any defensemen in the league.
Roster Moves: Goaltender Chris Whitley was called up to the American Hockey League's Texas Stars Saturday, Feb. 13. To fill his vacancy, the club signed former Missouri netminder Alexandre Vincent.
Mick Berge was moved from 14-day IR to 30-day IR Feb. 13. Forward Britt Dougherty and defenseman Jordie Benn were placed on 14-day IR Feb. 13, retroactive to Feb. 5 and Feb. 2, respectively.
The Americans traded goalie Charlie Effinger Feb. 8 to Missouri to fulfill the prior trade that sent defenseman Sean Perkins to Allen. The club then signed Cornell standout and Texas native David McKee to fill the vacancy.
