Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs News Release
BOSSIER CITY, LA - The Central Hockey League today announced Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs defenseman Simon Mangos as this week's Oakley CHL Player of the Week. The award is the first of Mangos' Mudbugs career and comes on his 30th birthday.
Mangos lit up the score sheet for Bossier-Shreveport last week, leading the way with nine points (three goals and six assists) and a +4 rating as the Mudbugs went 3-1-0 during a set of four games in six days. The offensive explosion pulled him into a tie for the team lead in scoring and also tied him for third in the CHL in scoring among defensemen.
The 2nd year Mudbug started the week with a four-point night in Mississippi. Mangos scored one goal and assisted on three others as the 'Bugs pounded the RiverKings 6-1 at the DeSoto Civic Center. Then on Thursday in Missouri, Bossier-Shreveport trailed 1-0 late in the second period before Mangos erupted for two goals in a 34-second span to give the Mudbugs a lead they wouldn't relinquish in a 3-1 victory.
Saturday in Corpus Christi, the 5-10, 200-pound blueliner assisted on a pair of goals to help the 'Bugs rally from two separate one-goal deficits before eventually falling 5-2. Mangos then capped off the week with another assist Sunday against the IceRays, helping set up a David Rutherford goal just 1:08 into the game as the Mudbugs cruised to a 4-1 win.
For the season, the Cambridge, Ontario native has totaled ten goals and 26 assists while playing every game for Bossier-Shreveport. His 36 points are tied with Joe Blaznek for the team lead and Mangos also ranks among the team leaders in plus/minus rating, game-winning goals, powerplay assists and shots on goal.
Mangos and the Mudbugs are back on the CenturyTel Center ice this weekend, hosting the Tulsa on Friday and Wichita on Saturday for "Pink in the Rink" weekend.
Group ticket packages and mini-plans for both games are available now through the Mudbugs office at 752-BUGS, while individual tickets are on sale through Ticketmaster at 741-9700 or online at www.ticketmaster.com
