August 24, 2019 - International League (IL1)
Toledo Mud Hens News Release

COLUMBUS, Ohio - Just one day after allowing a season-high eight runs in one inning, the Toledo Mud Hens pounded out 14 hits Saturday, including four home runs, in a 14-0 win over the Columbus Clippers.

Christin Stewart, Chad Sedio and Mikie Mahtook all went yard to help Toledo earn its nine shutout win of the season and fifth at Huntington Park.

Through his last 11 games, Stewart is batting 16-for-40 (.400) with two doubles and nine RBIs, having joined on August 6 to begin his second MLB rehab assignment.

The scoring barrage peaked in the fifth inning with eight runs coming off five walks, two doubles and a home run from Sedio. The Cleveland, Ohio, native's blast to right would be the first of his Triple-A career.

Mahtook is first among active Mud Hens hitters in RBIs (55) and also became the first to notch 20 homers with his line drive to left in the sixth inning.

Veteran right-hander Tim Adleman (8-4, 3.34 ERA) allowed just two hits over 6.1 innings pitched, striking out five and walking three, for his fifth win over his last six starts with Toledo.

Columbus starter Logan Allen (0-1, 9.92 ERA) threw 4.1 innings and gave up nine runs on eight hits for the loss.

The Mud Hens have won six of their last nine games but remain three back of the Indianapolis Indians for second place in the IL West Division.

What Happened:

Stewart, who was optioned by Detroit on Thursday, roped his second home run in Triple-A to right field for a 2-0 first inning lead. The 25-year-old outfielder slashed .264/.364/.480 in 122 games this past year.

Stewart would collect his first multi-home run performance of the season with another long ball to right in the third inning.

Grayson Greiner singled two batters later to score Frank Schwindel from second, who doubled for the fifth time since transferring from Double-A Erie, exactly two months after signing a minor-league deal with Detroit.

Schwindel became the second Mud Hens position player in 2019 to pitch an entire inning in Friday's loss. His home run in the ninth marked the first hit recorded by a team pitcher dating back to July 10, 2014.

The native of Livingston, New Jersey, came into the game with a .681 slugging percentage and 1.046 OPS in 69 plate appearances.

Toledo led 5-0 through four as Sedio picked up his sixth RBI of the year on a sacrifce fly. Sedio made his first start at second base following the promotion of Willi Castro to Detroit.

Schwindel and Danny Woodrow contributed heavily to the breakout fifth inning with a combined two doubles and four RBIs.

Columbus right-hander Cam Hill (3-2, 3.97 ERA) surrendered four of the eight total runs on three hits.

The Clippers had two hits heading into the seventh and would not get a runner on-base until the ninth with two outs.

- Matt Wotherspoon joined the Mud Hens after signing a minor-league contract with Detroit on Saturday. The 27-year-old right-hander was released from Baltimore earlier in the week.

- To make room on the 25-man roster for Wotherspoon, the Tigers transferred left-hander Trent Szkutnik to Double-A Erie.

- Grayson Greiner was activated from the 60-day injured list Saturday and optioned to Toledo. Greiner had been sidelined since mid-June with a back strain. Prior to the injury, Greiner slashed .162/.231/.279 in 169 plate appearance with Detroit this season.
