Muckdogs Defeat Black Bears in Game Three

Granville, W. Va. - On Pirates Takeover Night at Monongalia County Ballpark, the West Virginia Black Bears lost to the Batavia Muckdogs 1-0.

The Black Bears welcomed Pittsburgh Pirates on-field host Joe Klimchak to the ballpark, as well as the Pirate Parrot and the Pierogies to participate in tonight's festivities. Former Pirates centerfielder and 1979 World Series champion Omar Moreno was also in attendance and threw out the game's first pitch.

West Virginia got another quality outing from its starting pitcher, this time coming from P Osvaldo Bido. The righty threw five innings of one-run baseball, giving up four hits and one walk while striking out a season-high nine batters.

Bido's lone run came in the in the top of the fifth, as the Muckdogs drove in a runner on an RBI single to put the score at 1-0.

The Black Bears' bullpen showed out once again, starting with P John Pomeroy. The righty threw a scoreless frame in the sixth, picking up a strikeout in the process.

P Conner Loeprich followed him up with two innings of work, striking out a pair of batters to keep the deficit at one run.

While the pitching staff had an impressive evening, the West Virginia offense struggled. Despite holding the Muckdogs to one run, the Black Bears only managed three hits in the ballgame.

P Cam Alldred came in for his 17th straight inning of scoreless relief in the top of the ninth, but Batavia got three straight outs in the bottom of the inning to secure the win and steal the series on the road.

The Black Bears will take a trip to Happy Valley to start a three-game series with the State College Spikes. First pitch for tomorrow's game is scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
