NORWICH, Ct. - Cam Warner tallied an RBI single in the second inning and Mitchell Stalsberg tossed 2 2/3 innings of scoreless relief but the Connecticut Tigers (23-24) suffered a 5-2 loss to the Stedler Division-leading Tri-City ValleyCats (28-22) during their series finale on Tuesday night at Dodd Stadium.

Tigers starter Gio Arriera (Loss, 2-3) gave up a grand slam to Oscar Campos in the second inning that put the ValleyCats ahead 4-0. Arriera rebounded by retiring 10 of the next 12 ValleyCats and left after five innings with three hits, two walks, and two strikeouts.

Connecticut cut the deficit in half by scoring two runs with two outs in the third. Isrrael De La Cruz bounced an infield single to shortstop and a throwing error from first base to third base allowed Darwin Alvarado to score Connecticut's first run. The next batter, Warner, recorded the only run batted in for the Tigers on a single to center that scored the speedy De La Cruz from second base.

Stalsberg inherited a bases-loaded jam with no outs from Arvicent Perez in the seventh inning and ceded a sacrifice fly RBI to Emmanuel Valdez that pushed the ValleyCats lead to 5-2. Stalsberg finished off the ballgame for Connecticut and dropped his team-best earned run average to 0.77 in 20 2/3 innings this season.

Tri-City relievers Austin Hansen (Win, 2-1), R.J. Freure (Hold, 2), and J.P. France (Save, 2) combined for six scoreless innings with two hits, no walks and 13 strikeouts. The Tigers matched a season-high with 16 total strikeouts in the game.

On Wednesday, the Tigers travel to Brooklyn for the first time this season. Connecticut right-handed pitcher Chance Kirby (2-2, 2.45) draws the start against Cyclones righty Briam Campusano (2-5, 5.26) with first pitch at 7 p.m. Coverage on the Norwich Courtyard by Marriott Connecticut Tigers Radio Network begins with Kevin Gehl at 6:50 p.m. on WICH 1310 AM and online at CTTigers.com via TuneIn Radio.
