After Drew Hayes recorded the first two outs of the eighth inning, Jamie Walczak (SV, 3) earned his third save of the year by recording the final four outs of the ballgame, picking up two strikeouts along the way.
Micah Owings (1-1) was dealt the loss in his second start as a Jacksonville Sun, allowing three runs (all earned) on seven hits in 3.1 innings of work, while walking three batters and striking out four Wahoos.
Jay Rogers followed up Owings by allowing two runs (both earned) on three hits in 2.2 innings of relief. Nick Wittgren faced the minimum six batters in his two scoreless innings, allowing one hit and striking out one batter in Monday's outing.
The Suns used some two-out magic in the first inning on back-to-back doubles from Miguel Tejada and Rich Poythress to take an early 1-0 lead.
The Wahoos leveled the score at 1-1 after Ross Perez scored on a double play ball off the bat of Yorman Rodriguez in the bottom of the second.
Pensacola took the lead in the bottom of the third on a Ross Perez RBI infield single that scored Josh Fellhauer to give the Wahoos a 2-1 lead.
Following back-to-back one-out walks in the bottom of the fourth, Ray Chang doubled Pensacola's lead with a RBI double, making it 3-1 in favor of the Wahoos.
Josh Fellhauer added to Pensacola's lead with a two-out, two-run single in the bottom of the fifth to open up a 5-1 lead for the Wahoos and cap off Monday night's scoring.
The Suns and Blue Wahoos will be back at it on Tuesday, with first pitch set for 6:30 p.m. CT (7:30 p.m. ET) at Pensacola Bayfront Stadium. The Suns are set to start lefty Justin Nicolino (4-2, 3.30) and he's due to be countered by Pensacola right-hander Mikey O'Brien (2-3, 5.02).
