Pensacola Blue Wahoos News Release

PENSACOLA, Fla. - Pensacola Blue Wahoos players showed the swagger of legendary fictional "anchorman" Ron Burgundy on Monday night in their, 5-1, victory over the Jacksonville Suns.

They even looked like the 1970s San Diego TV anchor Burgundy, sporting his trademark mustache at least on the video board during Anchorman Night at Pensacola Bayfront Stadium.

As Burgundy, who is played by comedian Will Ferrell, said famously, "I don't know how to put this but I'm kind of a big deal."

And so were the Wahoos, especially starting pitcher Jon Moscot. He allowed one run, four hits and struck out eight in seven innings of work, including the side in his final inning.

Throwing a season-high 115 pitches for Wahoos starters, Moscot lowered his ERA to 2.33, fourth best in the Southern League. And, great Odin's Raven, he retired 17 of 18 batters and nine straight before Jacksonville's Alfredo Silverio singled.

"That show of faith that I could get that done was big for me," Moscot said. "I didn't feel tired. I felt in control of my stuff tonight."

Manager Delino DeShields said he was pleased with Moscot, who earned his first win since May 12 and is now 4-3 on the season.

"I liked what I was seeing," DeShields said. "His velocity was still good. He's a very composed young man. He doesn't lose his cool out there."

Jacksonville pitcher Micah Owings was making his second start for the Suns, after signing in April with the Miami Marlins to be a pitcher again in 2014. He tried his hand at converting to an outfielder in 2013. He played in the Major Leagues from 2007-12 for the Arizona Diamond backs, Cincinnati Reds and San Diego Padres and posted a 32-33 record and 4.86 ERA.

But Pensacola second baseman Ray Chang chased Owings out of the game with a one-out double in the third inning that scored pitcher Moscot for a 3-1 lead. The Wahoos added two more in the fifth inning to go up, 5-1, when leadoff hitter Josh Fellhauer's single to shallow center field scored both Ross Perez and Yorman Rodriguez.

GAME NOTES

The series continues Tuesday with the fourth game of the series and first pitch is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. RHP Mikey O'Brien (2-3, 5.02) is set to start for the Wahoos and he will be opposed by Justin Nicolino (4-2, 3.30). It's Team Tuesday Fans are encouraged to come early for a complimentary pregame autograph session by select Blue Wahoos players. The game will be broadcast live on ESPN Pensacola at 101.5 FM and 1450 AM.

ANCHORMAN NIGHT The Blue Wahoos celebrated the movie Anchorman Monday night at the game. Will Ferrell played with the legendary San Diego TV anchor Ron Burgundy in the hit 2004 movie. Fans, players and local TV celebrities all got involved. WEAR weatherman Christian Garman and WEAR anchor Bob Solarski had an air jazz flute competition that had Garman rolling on the ground on his back. Solarski ended up being named "Anchorman of the Night" and walked off with a drinking cup with a mustache on it. First baseman Travis Mattair got into the mood, too, with "Afternoon Delight," which Burgundy crooned with his news crew as back up, as his theme song when he walked up to the plate.

MIGUEL TEJADA WATCH On Day 3 with the Jacksonville Suns, Tejada was 1-3, with a sizzling line drive down the third base line into the left field corner for a double and then came in to score. He only played six innings after playing all nine the first two nights.

Moscot was asked what he would tell his grandchildren about the first time he faced Tejada, a six-time All-Star and American League MVP in 2002. He answered: "I came into the dugout after that first at bat and was, like, I put that fastball right where I wanted it and he still crushed it. He's impressive."

Tejada's 105-game suspension by Major League Baseball ends June 7 and he's expected to be called up to the Miami Marlins then.
