Stars Eight Game Streak Ends

Jackson, TN-The Jackson Generals spoiled the Huntsville Stars chance of clinching a Southern League first half championship by blanking the Stars 7-0 Sunday night at The Ballpark at Jackson.

The Generals(23-33) ended the Stars(39-18) eight game winning streak and became just the second team to shutout the Stars this year.

Jackson scored in the fourth inning against Stars starter Drew Gagnon(4-2). Dario Pizzano ripped a ball past a diving Stars first baseman Nick Ramirez scoring Ketel Marte.

In the bottom of the sixth inning, Jamal Austin singled and stole second base. Marte scored him on an rbi single giving the Generals a 2-0 lead.

Gagnon exited the game and in came reliever Arecenio Leon. After Dan Paolini singled, Patrick Kivlehan reached on a fielder's choice scoring Marte which made it 3-0.

Gagnon went five innings allowing five hits on three runs. He also walked three and struck out three.

In the seventh, Leon Landry produced an rbi single off Leon making it 4-0. Paolini later in the inning lined a two-run single down the left field line.

Jackson scored their final run in the eighth inning against Tommy Toledo. Jack Marder doubled over D'Vontrey Richardson's head in centerfield scoring Manny Pina.

The Stars and Generals are tied 1-1 in their five game series. Game three is Monday night. LHP Brent Suter(6-3, 2.55) will start for the Stars. Jackson's starter is RHP Forrest Snow(0-0, 0.00).
