Morgan Warren Named Maple Leafs Man of The Year

March 27, 2003 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Toronto Marlies News Release

The St. John's Maple Leafs are proud to announce that Morgan Warren has been named the St. John's Maple Leafs 2002-2003 American Specialty/HG Insurance/AHL Man of the Year. The award honors the player adjudged to have made the greatest commitment to his community and charitable organizations throughout the course of the season.

As a member of the St. John's Maple Leafs, Morgan has lead the Maple Leafs Munchkins Program to great success. Morgan carried on the tradition that Mike Minard began here, to aid sick or less fortunate children in coming to Mile One Stadium and see a hockey game. This program allows children from four different community groups to come for a night out, to watch Maple Leafs hockey, forget about their troubles, and get lost in the game!

Morgan takes his community involvement beyond the Maple Leafs Munchkins program. He schedules his own visits to the Janeway Children's Hospital during each homestand. He also is one of the team leaders in regularly scheduled players appearances for the hockey club that include minor hockey appearances, school appearances and autograph signings.

In recognition of his efforts, Morgan will be presented with an etched crystal trophy during an on-ice presentation prior to an upcoming home game.

Morgan Warren is now a finalist for the AHL's 2002-2003 Yanick Dupre Memorial Award honoring the overall American Specialty/HG Insurance/AHL Man of the Year. One player will be selected from the 28 individual team award winners to be honored during the Calder Cup 2003 Finals as the 2002-2003 Yanick Dupre Memorial Award winner.

The Yanick Dupre Memorial Award is named after the late Yanick Dupre, who passed away in August of 1997 at the age of 24, following a 16-month battle with leukemia. Dupre played four seasons with the Hershey Bears (1992-96) registering 169 points (70-99) in 207 AHL games. He also played in 35 NHL games with the Philadelphia Flyers.

American Specialty is the industry leader in providing risk services for the sports and entertainment fields. HG Insurance Services, Inc., is a full-service, national brokerage specializing in sports, entertainment and program business.

The Maple Leafs will play a crucial two-game set this weekend against the Saint John Flames. Both games will be broadcast LIVE on Radio NF (930AM) and www.sjmapleleafs.ca. Game times are 7:30PM on Friday and 7:00PM on Saturday. The Maple Leafs return to Mile One Stadium next Wednesday and Friday, April 2nd & 4th to face the Manitoba Moose.

To purchase Maple Leafs tickets visit or call the Mile One Stadium Box Office (709) 576-7657, 1-800-361-4595 or go online at www.sjmapleleafs.ca. Box office hours are Monday thru Saturday, 9am – 5pm and Sunday 12noon - 5pm.
