Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp News Release
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - The Miami Marlins announced a pair of transactions that impacts their Double-A affiliate Jacksonville Suns roster prior to tonight's game against the Montgomery Biscuits at Bragan Field at 3:05 p.m.
Right-handed relief pitcher Matt Montgomery has been reinstated to the Suns roster from the disabled list. Montgomery began the year on the disabled list recovering from Tommy John surgery on his right elbow last spring. He pitched in one game for the Suns in 2012, and is 0-1 with a 4.76 ERA in his career at the Double-A level. Montgomery was selected by the Marlins in the 10th round of the 2009 draft out of University of California-Riverside.
In a corresponding move, right-handed relief pitcher Joel Effertz has been transferred from the Suns to Single-A Greensboro. Effertz pitched for the Suns in one game, only giving up one base hit in two scoreless innings. In five games with the Grasshoppers, Effertz had no wins or losses and a 1.93 ERA, with only one walk and eight strikeouts through his nine and a third innings on the mound. Effertz was selected by the Marlins in the 28th round of the 2013 Draft out of Wisconsin - La Crosse.
The Suns roster stands at 25 plus Miami Marlins second baseman Rafael Furcal on his MLB rehab assignment, and a revised roster is attached.
Jacksonville and Montgomery will be back at it today at 3:05 p.m. ET at Bragan Field. The Suns will send out the lefty Justin Nicolino (1-2, 4.35) to the mound on Sunday, and he's set to be opposed by Biscuits right-hander Mike Colla (1-2, 4.57).
