Mobile BayBears News Release

MOBILE, AL -- The Mobile BayBears topped the Jackson Generals 8-1 Sunday afternoon at Hank Aaron Stadium. The win was Mobile's fourth in-a-row and sets the BayBears up for a chance to sweep the Generals for the first time in 2014 when the two teams conclude the five game series on Monday. The Mobile win coupled with a loss by the Montgomery Biscuits Sunday allowed Mobile to gain a game in the Southern League South Division Standings as the BayBears will enter play Monday morning just one game back of first place.

The BayBears' bats got going early against the Generals when RHP Stephen Landazuri was scratched late for precautionary reasons with a tightness in his oblique muscle just moments before the start of the game. LHP Jordan Shipers made the spot start for the Generals and pitched the first three innings of the contest.

Jake Lamb put the BayBears on the board with a two-run double in the bottom of the first that scored Tom Belza and David Peralta. Three more runs came across the plate in the second inning when Garret Weber and Sean Jamieson reached safely on back-to-back singles and Mike Freeman delivered a three-run homer to give Mobile a 5-0 advantage. The BayBears final three runs came in the fourth inning when Peralta hit a two-run double and Jake Lamb was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded.

RHP Mike Lee earned his third win in a row. Lee threw seven innings of four hit ball, allowing just one run in his fifth start of the season. Lee retired 14 of the first 16 men he faced. The loss was charged to Shipers who allowed five runs, three of them earned on six hits in three innings on the mound.

The BayBears and Generals will conclude the five game series on Monday morning when the two teams throw out first pitch at a special 11:35 AM start time. LHP Cam Hobson (2-1, 3.97) will make the start for Jackson while RHP Bryan Woodall (0-1, 2.80) will take to the bump for Mobile. The BayBears will have an off day on Tuesday then travel to Birmingham for a five game series against the Barons starting Wednesday, April 30.
