Mississippi Braves News Release
Pensacola, FL - Williams Perez pitched a gem on Sunday afternoon at Pensacola Bayfront Stadium, but the Mississippi Braves couldn't capitalize, falling 2-0 to the Pensacola Blue Wahoos.
Perez (2-2) suffered the loss despite not allowing an earned run over his seven innings of work. He allowed just one unearned run while striking out two and walking two.
The Blue Wahoos (10-14) broke the scoreless tie in the fifth inning, when Juan Silverio poked one past Perez on the right side of the infield. Perez dove but couldn't get it, and Silverio had an infield hit. He moved around on two groundouts before pitcher Jon Moscot chopped one softly toward third where Kyle Kubitza had a hard time getting it out of his glove. The run scored on the error for a 1-0 Wahoos lead.
That's all Pensacola needed, as the Braves (9-15) managed just three hits against Moscot (1-1). He threw eight innings of shutout baseball, striking out four and walking one. Jamie Walczak came on for a 1-2-3 ninth for his first save of the season.
Pensacola tacked on one more run in the eighth. Beau Amaral doubled down the third base line with one out off reliever Chasen Shreve. Amaral came in to score when Steve Selsky singled to center.
The Braves' three hits came from Matt Lipka, Kubitza and Braeden Schlehuber, all singles.
With the series tied at two games apiece, the Braves and Blue Wahoos will play a rubber match on Monday night at 6:30 PM CT, with right-hander JR Graham (0-1, 1.17) taking the hill against Wahoos right-hander Michael Lorenzen (2-1, 1.52).
Listen live to Kyle Tait on the call beginning at 6:00 PM CT on 103.9 WYAB or online at MississippiBraves.com and TuneIn Radio.
