Monsters Shut Out San Antonio 4-0
March 13, 2015 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Cleveland Monsters News Release
Calvin Pickard notched his second straight shutout for the Monsters, following up a 34-save shutout on Sunday with a 31-save shutout on Friday to backstop the Lake Erie Monsters (27-24-5-3) to a 4-0 win over the San Antonio Rampage (34-20-5-1) at the AT&T Center. Ben Street, Ben Youds, Kenny Ryan, and Trevor Cheek scored for the Monsters, as Pickard collected his third shutout of the season. Andrew Agozzino had a pair of assists for the Monsters, who take on San Antonio again tomorrow night at 8:00 p.m. Eastern.
Ben Street scored to give the Monsters a 1-0 lead just before time expired in the first period. Duncan Siemens dumped a puck in on the left side, Andrew Agozzino kept the play alive behind the net, and Street jammed a puck at the side of the past San Antonio goalie Michael Houser. The goal was Street's seventh goal of the season.
The Monsters doubled-up their lead in the second period when Ben Youds made the score 2-0. Street sent a pass from below the right circle to an open Youds streaking through the left circle, and Youds immediately one-timed the puck past Houser. Agozzino also assisted on the goal, which was the seventh of the season and second as a Monster for Youds.
Kenny Ryan gave the Monsters a 3-0 lead with six minutes remaining when he chopped a loose puck at the side of the net past Houser for his ninth goal of the season. Trevor Cheek had the lone assist on Ryan's goal. Cheek factored into the goal that sealed the victory when he scored an empty-netter with 3:35 remaining to extend the Monsters lead to 4-0. Cheek's goal was his fifth of the season, and was assisted by Michael Schumacher and Ryan.
Pickard stopped all 34 shots he saw to improve to 16-12-5. Houser is 12-9-3 after the loss; he stopped 26 of 29 in the San Antonio net.
The Monsters and Rampage play again in San Antonio tomorrow at 8:00 p.m. Eastern. The game airs live on AM 1420 'The Answer'.
