Hershey Bears News Release
ARLINGTON, Va. - The Washington Capitals have recalled center Andre Burakovsky from the Hershey Bears of the American Hockey League (AHL) and re-assigned defenseman Cameron Schilling to Hershey, senior vice president and general manager Brian MacLellan announced today.
Burakovsky has played in 49 games with Washington this season, registering 21 points (nine goals, 12 assists) and 10 penalty minutes. The Malmo, Sweden, native made his NHL debut on Oct. 9 against Montreal and scored his first NHL goal in the first period.
Burakovsky became the 13th player in Capitals history to score his first NHL goal in his first NHL game and is one of just seven players in franchise history to score a goal in his NHL debut and season opener.
Burakovsky appeared in four games with Hershey this season, earning one assist. Burakovsky made his AHL debut on Dec. 19 at Lehigh Valley. The 6'3", 198-pound center registered 87 points (41g, 46a) in 57 games with the Erie Otters (OHL) in 2013-14. He was named the OHL Player of the Month for March after tallying 24 points (12 goals, 10 assists) in 12 games during the month and recorded a league-high plus-22 rating. Burakovsky led Erie to the best regular-season record in franchise history (52-14-2-0, 106 points) and finished the season ranked ninth in the OHL in goals (41), tied for sixth in power-play goals (15), third in game-winning goals (10) and tied for eighth in plus/minus (+46).
Schilling, 26, appeared in four games with the Capitals this season. The Carmel, Ind., made his 2014-15 season debut on Feb. 6 against Anaheim and has recorded four penalty minutes in six career NHL games with Washington. Schilling recorded 13 points (two goals, 11 assists) and 44 penalty minutes in 48 games with Hershey (AHL) this season and has earned 45 points (12 goals, 33 assists) and 208 penalty minutes in 195 career AHL games. Schilling signed with Washington as a free agent on March 27, 2012.
Schilling played in 144 collegiate games during his four-year career with Miami University, collecting 57 points (eight goals, 49 assists) and 155 penalty minutes. The 6'2", 202-pound defenseman was a member of two NCAA All-Regional Teams (2008, 2010) and helped Miami win the 2010-11 CCHA Championship.
