Portland Pirates News Release

Portland, Me. - Luck was on the side of the Portland Pirates (34-22-3-1) this Friday the 13th with a late-in-the-game-goal to send the game to overtime in an eventual 2-1 overtime win against the Norfolk Admirals (22-31-4-3). It was the sixth win in a row for the Pirates, seventh straight game without a regulation loss. Tyler Gaudet scored a goal with just 1:17 remaining in regulation to knot the game 1-1.

The first period saw a fight between Portland's Phil Lane and Norfolk's Joseph Cramarossa. The two players exchanged blows and Lane appeared to win the brawl before both were hauled off to the penalty box with matching majors.

The Admirals lone goal of the night came at 11:22 in the second frame, an unassisted shot off the stick of Louis LeBlanc. The Pirates tried to rally back, but the Admirals held their 1-0 lead deep into the third period.

Gaudet scored the game-tying goal at 18:43 in the third, after coming off the bench when goalie Mike McKenna was pulled to gove the Pirates a man advantage. The goal was assisted by Alex Bolduc and Henrik Samuelsson and sent the home crowd at Cross Arena into a tizzy.

Dylan Reese scored the game-winner at 2:18 in the overtime period, assisted by Jordan Szwarz and Joel Hanley. The win gave Portland 2 points, placing them squarely at sixth place in the Eastern Conference, third in the Atlantic Division.

McKenna (23-14-2) saved all but one of the Admiral's 31 shots on the night. Jason LaBarbera (7-11-4) saved 23 of 25 Pirates' shots.

The Pirates and Admirals are back at it again tomorrow night at the Cross Insurance Arena at 7 p.m. for another round of Hockey on the High Seas. Tickets for the game are buy-one-get-one-half-off, so call 207-PIRATES!
