Monsters Homestand Highlighted with Second Annual Purple Game
March 27, 2019 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Cleveland Monsters News Release
CLEVELAND, OH - The Cleveland Monsters are proud to once again partner with The American Cancer Society to host the team's second-annual Purple Game on Saturday, March 30, when the team takes on the Lehigh Valley Phantoms at The Q for a 7:00 p.m. matchup.
With the theme of NO ONE BATTLES ALONE surrounding the night, Monsters fans will see that sentiment come to life through purple activation and messaging throughout the game. The first 10,000 fans will receive a purple rally towel when they enter The Q, and fans can personalize 'I Fight For' signs to display during the event. The Monsters' players will sport specialty purple jerseys for the game that will be available through an online auction via Handbid to benefit the Monsters Community Foundation. The auction will be open from 6:00 p.m. until 10 minutes after the game with more details on bidding available on ClevelandMonsters.com and at the Monsters Community Foundation table located at Section 128.
The Monsters will welcome a special group of VIP guests from the American Cancer Society to participate in a ceremonial puck drop and receive a $5,000 check from the Monsters Community Foundation in support of their efforts for cancer research. Survivors will be highlighted and honored throughout the game on the Humungotron and will participate in numerous on and off-ice activities, including watching warmups from the Monsters' bench, riding the Zamboni and tossing T-shirts to Monsters fans.
Fans are encouraged to show their support by wearing purple to the game and will have the opportunity to sign the name of a friend or loved one affected by cancer on a special banner located at Section 128.
The Cavaliers Team Shop will feature specialty Purple Game merchandise with 50 percent of Saturday's proceeds going to The Gathering Place, a Cleveland-based organization that provides support to individuals and families impacted by cancer.
In an effort to 'drop the puck' on raising awareness for the Purple Game, The Monsters and the American Cancer Society hosted 30 cancer survivors for coffee and donuts at OBM Arena on Tuesday, March 19, when the group watched the Monsters' morning skate and met several players, some of whom have felt the impact of cancer in their own lives. Members of the team's front office also visited The American Cancer Society's Hope Lodge to serve breakfast and visit with families earlier this week to support those currently undergoing treatment. Monsters forward and top scorer Zac Dalpe understands the importance of cancer research and community support after losing his mother to breast cancer in 2015.
"I've been on the side of the people battling so it hits home for me," said Dalpe. "I admire seeing everybody's fight and courage. It is nice to raise awareness through our hockey."
