
Monsters Fall to Iowa in OT, 2-1

Former Monster Joel Chouinard scored top-shelf on a slap shot with 20.3 seconds left in overtime to hand the Lake Erie Monsters (24-21-5-3) a 2-1 overtime loss to the Iowa Wild (19-37-1-1) before a Quicken Loans Arena crowd of 9,865 Friday night. Joey Hishon scored the lone goal for the Monsters, who collected one point in the standings with the overtime loss. With an assist, Andrew Agozzino tied T.J. Hensick for the Monsters all-time points lead with 131. The Monsters and Wild conclude their four-game season series at 7:00 p.m. Saturday in Downtown Cleveland.
After a scoreless first period, Iowa's Jonathan Blum completed a two-on-one rush for the Wild by giving his team a 1-0 lead 16 seconds into the second period. The Monsters bounced back on a power play when Joey Hishon picked up a bouncing puck in front of the net and swatted it home at 9:08 of the middle frame. The goal was the 13th of the season for Hishon, and was assisted by Stefan Elliott and Agozzino.
After a scoreless third period in which Calvin Pickard made eight saves in the Monsters net, the game went to overtime and Chouinard scored the clincher with 20.3 seconds left.
Pickard stopped 26 of 28 for the Monsters; he is 14-10-5 on the season. John Curry stopped 29 of 30 shots in net for Iowa; he is 9-15-0.
The Monsters host Iowa Saturday at 7:00 p.m. Saturday's game airs live on AM 1420 "ËThe Answer'.
