Barons Drop 4-2 Decision to Rampage

February 27, 2015 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Oklahoma City Barons News Release

Shane O'Brien scored a goal and had an assist for the San Antonio Rampage, who skated past the Oklahoma City Barons to a 4-2 win Friday night at the Cox Convention Center.

O'Brien scored the game's decisive goal exactly one minute into the third period, grabbing a pass from Ryan Martindale that deflected off OKC's Dillon Simpson in front of the net and sliding it past Barons goalie Laurent Brossoit to give the Rampage a 3-2 lead.

With the win, San Antonio upped its point total in the West Division of the AHL's Western Conference to 67, five points behind the division-leading Barons.

In addition to O'Brien's early period goal, San Antonio also netted a score just 1:29 into the first period to take a 1-0 lead when Mackenzie Weegar sent a long pass from the Rampage zone to the Barons blue line, where Corbin Knight dropped a pass back to Mark Mancari, who grabbed it and fired a shot from the right circle that sailed over the glove of Brossoit.

Oklahoma City tied the game at one at 4:44 of the first when Connor Jones found Brad Hunt near the top of the left circle, and Hunt fired a shot through the pads of San Antonio net minder Michael Houser.

At 5:31 of the second period, John McFarland gave the Rampage a 2-1 lead when he grabbed the rebound of a Rocco Grimaldi shot and pushed the puck past Brossoit.

After O'Brien's goal gave the Rampage a 3-1 lead, Bogdan Yakimov cut the San Antonio lead to 3-2 when grabbed a centering pass from Andrew Miller and flipped a shot past Houser. Despite six power play chances, Yakimov's goal was the only Oklahoma City score with a man advantage.

Connor Brickley added an empty net goal at 19:03 of the third period to seal the Rampage's 4-2 win.

The teams meet again Saturday, Feb. 28 in a 7 p.m. start at the Cox Convention Center.
