Columbus Blue Jackets Recall Center Brian Gibbons from Springfield

Springfield, Mass. - The Columbus Blue Jackets have placed left wing Matt Calvert on Injured Reserve and recalled center Brian Gibbons from the Springfield Falcons, Blue Jackets General Manager Jarmo Kekalainen announced today. Calvert is sidelined indefinitely due to a concussion.

Calvert, 25, has recorded 10 goals and nine assists for 19 points with 28 penalty minutes in 49 games this season. The Brandon, Manitoba native has posted 39-43-82 and 141 penalty minutes in 202 career NHL games. Columbus' fifth pick, 127th overall, in the 2008 NHL Draft, he set career highs in assists, points and penalty minutes with 9-15-24 and 53 penalty minutes in 56 games in 2013-14. He added 2-2-4 and four penalty minutes in six Stanley Cup playoff games.

Gibbons, 27, has collected five assists with six penalty minutes and a +2 plus/minus rating in 21 games this season with the Blue Jackets. The Braintree, Massachusetts native has added 3-6-9 and six penalty minutes in 10 contests with Springfield. Signed by Columbus as a free agent in July 2014, he has collected 5-17-22 with 12 penalty minutes and a +7 plus/minus rating in 62 career NHL games with the Blue Jackets and Pittsburgh Penguins.

Originally signed as a free agent by Pittsburgh on Apr. 4, 2011, Gibbons has posted 33-66-99 with 109 penalty minutes and a +4 plus/minus rating in 178 career AHL games with Springfield and Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins. He played four seasons at Boston College from 2007-11, winning NCAA championships in 2008 and 2010 and recording 56-108-164, 241 penalty minutes and a +82 plus/minus rating in 160 career games.
