LAST WEEK'S HIGHLIGHTS

At Lowell (3/24): Goaltender Jonathan Bernier halted 33 shots as the Manchester Monarchs singed the Lowell Devils, 2-1, at the Tsongas Center on Wednesday night. Center Justin Azevedo and left wing Dwight King lit the lamp for the Monarchs. Center Michael Swift tallied the lone goal for the Devils. Bernier (27-20-6) picked up his 27th win of the season stopping 33-of-34 shots. Devils netminder Mike McKenna (21-14-6) lost his 14th game of the season with 29 saves. Manchester went 1-for-3 on the power play. Lowell was 0-for-2 with the man advantage.

Vs. Bridgeport (3/26): Defenseman Alec Martinez recorded a season-high three assists as the Manchester Monarchs defeated the Bridgeport Sound Tigers, 4-1, at the Verizon Wireless Arena on Friday evening. Center Justin Azevedo, defenseman David Kolomatis, right wing Trevor Lewis and center Andrei Loktionov netted goals for the Monarchs. Center Tyler Haskins scored the lone goal for the Sound Tigers. Monarchs goaltender Jonathan Bernier (28-20-6) recorded his 28th victory of the season, halting 28-of-29 shots. Sound Tigers netminder Nathan Lawson (14-14-3) drew his 14th loss of the season, stopping 38-of-42 shots. Manchester went 1-for-3 on the power play. Bridgeport was 0-for-2 with the man advantage.

Vs. Adirondack (3/27): Center Oscar Moller recorded two goals as the Manchester Monarchs defeated the Adirondack Phantoms, 4-3, at the Verizon Wireless Arena on Saturday night. Center Justin Azevedo, center Oscar Moller (2) and defenseman Patrick Mullen scored for the Monarchs. Center Jon Matsumoto and right wing David Laliberte (2) put goals on the scoreboard for the Phantoms. Monarchs goaltender Jeff Zatkoff (10-9-0) recorded his 10th victory of the season, halting 29-of-32 shots. Phantoms netminder Carter Hutton (1-2-1) drew his second loss of the season, stopping 36-of-40 shots. Manchester went 1-for-6 on the power play. Adirondack was 0-for-2 with the man advantage.

At Providence (3/28): Defenseman Alec Martinez scored at 3:44 of overtime to complete the Manchester Monarchs come from behind, 4-3, overtime victory over the Providence Bruins at the Dunkin' Donuts Center on Sunday evening. Along with Martinez's game-winner, left wing Dwight King, right wing Trevor Lewis and center Andrei Loktionov turned on the red light for the Monarchs. The Bruins picked up tallies from right wing Devin Timberlake, center Levi Nelson and defenseman Andy Wozniewski. Monarchs goaltender Jonathan Bernier (29-20-6) recorded his 29th victory of the season, stopping 37-of-40 shots. Bruins netminder Dany Sabourin (25-25-0) drew his 25th loss of the season with 33 saves on 37 shots. Manchester went 1-for-2 on the power play. Providence was 0-for-2 with the man advantage.

NEWS & NOTES

The Manchester Monarchs (39-26-3-6) are in third place in the Atlantic Division with 87 points. The Worcester Sharks (46-22-2-3) lead the Atlantic Division with 97 points followed by the Portland Pirates (42-22-6-4) with 94 points, both of which have clinched a playoff berth in the 2010 Calder Cup Playoffs.

The Monarchs are 22-11-1-3 at the Verizon Wireless Arena this season.

Manchester is 5-4-0-1 in their last 10 games. The Monarchs are currently on a four-game winning streak.

The Monarchs penalty kill is ranked sixth in the AHL. They have given up 45 goals in 301 attempts when their opponent has had the man advantage.

Their power play is ranked sixth in the league with 53 goals on 272 opportunities with the man advantage.

Manchester has been outshot by their opponent in 52-of-74 games thus far this season.

The Monarchs are 20-1-1-1 when scoring the first goal on home ice.

Left wing Bud Holloway (18-26=44) leads the Monarchs in both assists (26) and points (44).

Holloway is tied for 13th in the AHL with five game-winning goals this season.

Center Corey Elkins (19-21@) ranks second on Manchester's roster with 40 points.

Elkins leads the Monarchs with 19 tallies this season.

Center Gabe Gauthier (8-25=33) ranks second on the squad with 25 assists and sits in third place with 33 points.

Center Oscar Moller (12-16=28) is currently on a six-game scoring streak with nine points (3-6=9). His current streak ties Elkins for the longest point streak of the season. Elkins recorded eight points (5-3=8) from January 16-26.

Moller also has moved up the Monarchs roster and into a tie for fourth place with defenseman Viatcheslav Voynov (9-19=28)

Voynov also leads Monarchs blueliners with 28 points.

Right wing Scott Parse (4-11=15), who was recalled by the Los Angeles Kings on Wednesday, March 3, is tied for the team lead in plus/minus with defenseman Alec Martinez (6-20=26) and right wing Kevin Westgarth (11-13$). Right wing John Zeiler (7-9=16) is close behind with a plus-10 rating.

Martinez has recorded 12 points (2-10=12) in his last seven games to bring him into a tie for sixth place on the Monarchs roster with left wing Dwight King (10-16=26) with 26 points each.

King has picked up five points (2-3=5) in his last four games.

Westgarth's career-high 24 points are tied for ninth place on the Monarchs roster with defenseman David Kolomatis (7-17$).

Center Justin Azevedo (13-12=25) is currently on a four-game point streak (3-1=4) and is ranked eighth on the Monarchs roster with 25 points.

Rookie center Andrei Loktionov (8-12=20) returned to the Monarchs line-up on Friday against Bridgeport after being sidelined with an upper body injury since November 25. In three games this weekend, Loktionov recorded three points (2-1=3).

Goaltender Jonathan Bernier has a record of 29-20-6 in 56 games of the season. His 29 wins are ranked third in the AHL.

Bernier's eight shutouts lead the AHL.

Bernier is ranked second in the league with a 2.07 goals-against-average and is ranked first with a.936 save percentage.

Netminder Jeff Zatkoff has played in 21 games for the Monarchs this season, recording a 10-9-0 record, a 2.83 goals-against-average, a.917 save percentage and two shutouts.
