The Manitoba Moose beat the Abbotsford Heat by a 5-2 score on Monday night in front of 6,505 spectators at the Abbotsford Entertainment & Sports Centre. Taylor Ellington, Mario Bliznak, Jordan Schroeder, Guillaume Desbiens and Aaron Volpatti all scored for Manitoba while Cory Schneider stopped 15 of 17 shots.

With consecutive penalties handed to Manitoba, the Heat benefited from a five-on-three advantage. The home team planted themselves in front of Cory Schneider's crease and Staffan Kronwall wired the puck over the goaltender's sprawled left goal pad for a one-goal lead at 4:35.

The Moose evened things up in the second period, when new addition Taylor Ellington connected. With a pass from Mario Bliznak, the rookie defenceman slapped the puck over a screened Leland Irving at 1:28.

Less than three minutes later, the visiting Moose capitalized again. Guillaume Desbiens slid the puck over the Mario Bliznak who chipped it over the goal-line for a 2-1 lead.

With Gord Baldwin serving time for interference at 6:17, Manitoba embarked on their first powerplay of the game. Despite firing two shots on the man-advantage, the visitors couldn't break Abbotsford penalty killers.

Five-on-five play paid off for Manitoba at 13:22 when Jordan Schroeder's shot caught a lucky bounce and fell behind Irving for a 3-1 tally.

The Moose extended their lead even further 4:59 into the final frame. While on their third powerlpay of the night, Guillaume Desbiens took a one-time shot that sailed over Irving's glove-hand for a 4-1 lead. At 6:59 Aaron Volpatti scored his first goal in Moose colors when he topped the puck over Irving for a 5-1 score.

With four minutes remaining in the game, Andy Delmore flew down the right wing and smacked the puck over Schneider's shoulder to tighten the gap. The last minute effort wouldn't be enough, however, and the Moose beat the hometown Heat by a 5-2 score.
