Manchester Monarchs News Release
MANCHESTER, NH â For the second consecutive game, the Manchester Monarchs came back from two one-goal deficits to post a win at the Verizon Wireless Arena. The victim this time was the Lowell Lock Monsters, who lost to the Monarchs, 4-2, before an energized crowd of 8,611 fans. Excellent goaltending from Milan Hnilicka and goals from George Parros, Pavel Rosa, Leon Hayward and Noah Clarke helped the Monarchs to their team-record 10th decision on home ice without a regulation loss.
The win for the Monarchs (13-9-1-2, 29 points) was their fourth in a row at home and their second straight overall. The win was also the third in five match-ups with the Lock Monsters (10-8-2-1, 23 points) this season. Thanks to the victory, the Monarchs remain tied with the Hartford Wolf Pack for first place in the Atlantic Division. The Wolf Pack (12-5-4-1, 29 points) edged the Portland Pirates 3-1 on Friday night.
The Lock Monsters entered play with one of the top-ranked power play units in the AHL, and they showed why in the opening period, converting on their first man-advantage to take the lead. Newly acquired wing Dan Carlson setup the tally with a nifty no-look pass to defenseman Brad Fast. Fast scored his third of the season when he took the offering and ripped the puck off the left post and into the Monarchs net at 5:28. Right wing Chad Larose also earned an assist on the play.
Right wing Parros was in the penalty box for holding when the Lowell goal was scored. The rookie more than made up for his gaffe early in the second period, however, when he scored his second goal of the season. Parros followed his own shot from the right wing, picked the pocket of a Lock Monsters defenseman Allan Rourke, and jammed the loose puck inside the right post 1:20 into the period. Clarke and center Yanick Lehoux assisted on the goal, with Lehoux extending his scoring streak to four games on the play.
The Lock Monsters struck again on the power play to regain the lead midway through the second period. Center Steve Kelly was in the penalty box for cross checking when left wing Josh Green scored at 10:37. Green's sixth of the season, triggered from the high slot, trickled through the pads of Hnilicka. Right wing Pavel Brendl and Fast shared assists on Green's second power play goal against the Monarchs this season.
The Monarchs tied the game 53 seconds later when right wing Pavel Rosa scored his 10th goal of the season. Ross pumped his shot over the outstretched stick of goaltender Dany Sabourin with Clarke and defenseman Richard Seeley assisting. Rosa leads the Monarchs and ranks second in the AHL with 29 points (10-19=29).
The Monarchs grabbed their first lead 2:25 into the final period as Muir added to his league-leading blue line total with his 16th assist. Muir one-timed his shot toward Sabourin from the left point after receiving a feed from right wing Sam Ftorek. Right wing Leon Hayward tipped the shot past the stunned netminder for his first goal of the season. Muir leads the AHL with 22 back line points (6-16=22).
The Monarchs wasted no time adding to their lead, notching their fourth goal just 1:15 later when Clarke collected his third point of the game with a slicing shot through the slot. Clarke capitalized on Lehoux's behind the net dish. Parros also earned an assist on the play.
The Monarchs return to the friendly confines of the Verizon Wireless Arena when they welcome the Providence Bruins to the Verizon Wireless Arena at 7:35 p.m. on Saturday, December 6. The Monarchs and Proctor Academy, with the assistance of the U.S. Marine Corp, will be collecting new and unwrapped toys prior to the game. Fans are encouraged to drop off toys intended for the Toys For Tots program as they enter the arena.
