Hamilton Bulldogs News Release
HAMILTON, ON - The Hamilton Bulldogs scored four unanswered goals in the third period to defeat the Binghamton Senators 4-2 at Copps Coliseum. Hamilton's record improves to 15 wins, 8 losses, 1 tie and 1 overtime loss on the season.
The opening frame had the Bulldogs out-chancing their opponent with shots of 14-8, but trailing in the goals category 1-0. Alexandre Giroux scored Binghamton's goal with assists to both Julien Vauclair and Andy Hedlund.
It was a similar story in the second period as well. Binghamton increased their lead by another goal when Senators' captain Chris Kelly potted his fifth of the year to put his team up 2-0.
Jozef Balej sparked the Bulldogs by scoring his eighth of the year on the power play early in the third period with assists credited to Francois Beauchemin and Benoit Gratton. Then Balej did not waste any time picking up his ninth goal of the year with help from Jean-Philippe Cote and Benoit Gratton to even the score at 2-2. Hamilton continued the third period scoring frenzy with Benoit Gratton's goal, which came on the power play, with helpers to Chris Higgins and Ron Hainsey. Benoit Gratton netted his second of the game with an empty net, unassisted goal.
With the victory, the Bulldogs improve their home game-winning streak to nine games.
Bulldogs goalie Eric Fichaud turned aside 28 shots from the Sens to pick up his tenth victory of the season. Senators goalie Billy Thompson stopped 33 Bulldogs shots in the loss; his record falls to 3-4-0.
On special teams, the Bulldogs were 3 for 7 on the powerplay while holding the Senators power play specialists to an 0 - 2 standing.
The Hamilton Bulldogs next home action will take place Sunday, December 7th as the Bulldogs will play host to QEW rival the Toronto Roadrunners at Copps Coliseum. Game time is 3:30pm. Tickets are available for purchase at the Copps Coliseum Box Office, at all Ticketmaster outlets or by calling Ticketmaster at (905) 527-7666.
