Albany N.Y. â The Albany River Rats announced today that the world's most famous trophy, the Stanley Cup will be making a Capital Region tour that concludes at the club's game against the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins on December 13, 2003 at 7pm.
The Cup will begin its area tour with an appearance at GlennPeter Jewelers at 1505 Route 9 in Halfmoon Plaza at 12:00pm. As a bonus, the first 20 people to make a purchase of a $100 or more will receive a FREE pair of River Rats tickets. The Silver Chalice will then stop at Kemp's Hockey Company in Newton Plaza on Route 9 in Latham from 1:30-2:30pm.
All fans attending the game against Wilkes-Barre/Scranton will have the opportunity to pose for pictures with the Stanley Cup on the Pepsi Arena concourse throughout the game. Arena doors open at 6:00pm and fans are invited to bring their own cameras to the game, or for a nominal fee, have their picture taken professionally.
The Devils' 2003 Stanley Cup Championship roster included 12 former Albany River Rats, three of which played for the club last season. An alphabetical list of former River Rats that took part in New Jersey's third championship follows: Tommy Albelin (1993-94 & 2002-3), Jiri Bicek (current), Sergei Brylin (1994-98), Patrik Elias (1995-98), Brian Gionta (2001-02), John Madden (1997-99), Jay Pandolfo (1995-98), Pascal Rheaume (1993-97), Corey Schwab (1993-96) and Colin White (1997-2000). Devils Assistant Coach Bob Carpenter also served as a member of the River Rats coaching staff from the 1999-2000 season through the conclusion of the 2001-02 campaign.
A total of 22 Albany River Rats have won the Stanley Cup since the club's inception in 1993. The following shows the remaining former River Rat players to win the Stanley Cup after skating in Albany: Brad Bombardir (2000, NJ), Steve Brule (2000, NJ), Kevin Dean (1995, NJ), Jim Dowd (1995, NJ), Steve Kelly (2000, NJ), Chris McAlpine (1995, NJ), Bryan Muir (2001, COL), Krzyzstof Oliwa (2000, NJ), Brian Rolston (1995, NJ), Ken Sutton (2000, NJ) and Petr Sykora (2000, NJ).
The Albany River Rats, in their 11th season as a member of the American Hockey League, are owned and operated by Capital District Sports Inc., and serve as the primary affiliate of the Stanley Cup Champion New Jersey Devils.
