READING, Pa. - Two goals from Maxim Kitsyn weren't enough, as the Manchester Monarchs couldn't extend their winning streak to seven games, dropping their first game since January 17, 6-4, to the Reading Royals on Wednesday night from the Santander Arena.

The Monarchs (28-13-1-4) and Royals (21-17-4-3) are now tied in the season series at two games apiece, with six games remaining between the two clubs.

Reading jumped out to an early lead when Scott Tanski broke the ice for the Royals at 5:45 of the first period. Tanski took a sharp wing-to-wing pass from Brandon Alderson to beat Monarchs goaltender, Dour Carr, stick side.

The Monarchs tied things up when Robbie Donahoe netted his 2nd goal of the season at 8:18. Donahoe grabbed the puck in the left face-off circle and ripped a wrist-shot past Reading goaltender, Martin Ouellette, nicking the cross-bar on the way to the twine.

Kitsyn put the Monarchs on top with a power-play goal, his 16th of the season, at 10:31 of the first period. Kitsyn brought the puck into the offensive zone while on the man-advantage, and sent a wrist-shot past Ouellette's glove from the right face-off circle.

Mike Pereira wouldn't let the Manchester lead stick for long, tying the game back up at 2-2 when he potted his 16th goal of the season at 15:24. Pereira took a pass from Yannick Tifu at the left hash-mark, beating Carr high blocker.

The Monarchs ended the first period scoring spree when Derek Arnold scored his 14th goal of the season. Joey Diamond started the play with a strong forecheck, creating a turnover, then sent a pass to Arnold who crossed the face of Ouellette's cage, scoring on his forehand at 15:59 of the first period.

Reading squared the game at 14:29 of the second period when Kevin Young scored his 2nd goal of the season. While on the power play, Young sent a one-timer from the top of the left circle through Carr to tie the game at 3-3.

Pereira gave the Royals the lead early in the third period, scoring just :49 seconds into the frame on a breakaway, beating Carr high glove.

Kitsyn brought the Monarchs back to even when he scored his second goal of the game. Kitsyn created a turnover on the left half-boards, carried the puck to the slot and beat Ouellette glove side for the equalizer.

Yannick Tifu put the Royals up for good at 15:40 scoring his 11th of the season off of a feed from Justin Czarnick. Tifu drove the net while Czarnick carried along the left boards, and found the puck on his stick for the tap-in goal to put the Royals up, 5-4.

Justin Crandall added an empty-net-goal with :35 seconds remaining to put the game on ice for the Royals.

The Monarchs return home Saturday, Feb. 6 (7 p.m.) when they host the Elmira Jackals at the Jungle for the annual Pink in the Rink game. Proceeds from the game will be donated to the Catholic Medical Center's Breast Care Center.
