Cyclones Fall Victim To Nailers' Special Teams
February 3, 2016 - ECHL (ECHL)
Cincinnati Cyclones News Release
Cincinnati, OH - The Cincinnati Cyclones (20-18-3-2) fell to the Wheeling Nailers, 3-1, on Wednesday night. Forward Peter Quenneville scored the lone goal of the night for the Cyclones.
After the Nailers jumped out to a 1-0 lead after the first period on a shorthanded marker from forward Matt Tabrum, Wheeling's shorthanded unit struck again midway through the second, when forward Chris Ciotti lit the lamp, giving the Nailers a 2-0 lead.
The Cyclones started to tip the scales offensively in the second half of the frame, and with under three minutes left, forward Andrew Yogan came over the offensive blue line and sent a pass to Quenneville who blasted home a one-timer, cutting Cincinnati's deficit to 2-1 after 40 minutes.
Wheeling took back the momentum early in the third, as just 47 seconds in, forward Anton Zloban scored on the power play, extending the Nailers' lead to 3-1.
That was all the offense registered in this one, as the Cyclones received some good scoring chances throughout the remainder of the third, however could not find the back of the net, and Wheeling held on for a 3-1 win.
The Cyclones were outshot, 28-25 on the night, with Cyclones netminder Andy Iles stopping 25 in the loss. Cincinnati returns to home ice on Friday night when they welcome in the Indy Fuel at 7:35pm ET.
