Manchester Monarchs News Release
PROVIDENCE, RI - The Monarchs three-game winning streak came to a close on Monday afternoon in a 2-1 loss at Providence. The game was originally scheduled for Sunday, but moved due to weather.
The Monarchs (31-12-4-2) are winless in eight straight road games and have not won in four games at Providence (26-19-6-1). The Bruins extended their winning streak at the Dunkin Donuts Center to eight games.
Andrew Bodnarchuk scored Manchester's only goal of the game. It was his third goal of the season.
Steve Eminger gave the Bruins a 1-0 lead at 17:15 in the first period when he scored on the power play. A tripping penalty to Paul Bissonnette set up the man advantage.
Neither team scored in the second period with Manchester outshooting Providence in the frame, 12-7.
Providence extended the lead at 11:33 in the third when Rob Flick intercepted a pass from J.F. Berube and shot it into an open net.
Bodnarchuk put the Monarchs on the board at 14:58 in the third when he scored off a feed from Brian O'Neill right in front of the Providence net.
The Monarchs will play three straight home games this weekend when they host St. John's on Friday (7 p.m.) and Saturday (7 p.m.) and play Worcester at 3 p.m. on Sunday.
Notes:
Bodnarchuk's goal was his third of the season and first since Jan. 10 vs. BNG. Manchester went 0-for-2 on the power play, snapping a season-high streak of five straight games with a power-play goal. J.F. Berube suffered just his sixth loss in regulation this season. He has won 13 of his last 16 starts beginning on Dec. 6. Manchester is winless in four games (0-3-1-0) in Providence.
