Binghamton Senators News Release

TORONTO - The Binghamton Senators fell 5-4 to the Toronto Marlies in their final matchup of the season and the end of a home-and-home series at their parent National Hockey League club's arena.

Sam Carrick opened up the scoring 6:16 into the first period on a shorthanded goal with an assist from Eric Knodel. Binghamton evened the score at the 12-minute mark of the frame when Cole Schneider sent a puck towards the Marlies crease from the corner boards that caught a defenders skate giving him his 16th of the year. The B-Sens grabbed the 2-1 lead with just over two minutes remaining when Garrett Thompson redirected a feed from Darren Kramer past Christopher Gibson for his fourth tally of the year. Each team recorded nine shots on goal in the opening 20 minutes of play with Binghamton taking the one-goal lead into the first intermission.

Toronto struck just 36 seconds into the middle period to even the score 2-2 when Josh Leivo put home a rebounded puck off an initial save by Peter Mannino for his sixth of the year. The Marlies took their first lead of the night with a delayed penalty call coming against the Sens. With Gibson on the bench in favor of the sixth-attacker, Troy Bodie found Ryan Rupert on the backside of the crease and beat Mannino for his first of the night. Toronto made it 4-2 with less than five minutes to play in the period off of Rupert's second of the game to take the two-goal lead into the final intermission.

The B-Sens managed to tie up the game 4-4 following two goals that came 33 seconds apart. The first goal was from Derek Grant on a power-play opportunity. Alex Grant sent a hard shot from the blue line right to Derek Grant who was waiting to tip the drive in past Gibson for this 16th goal of the season. The second came after Matt Puempel dumped the puck behind the Marlies net. Puempel turned and found an open Jean-Gabriel Pageau on the crease who buried it for his 11th of the season. Just shy of the midway point, Carrick knocked home a loose puck to push the score to 5-4.

Toronto held on for the victory with Gibson finishing the night with 22 saves picking up his 12th victory of the year. Mannino finished with 26 saves to move to 3-6-2 for the year in his 13th appearance in net.

The B-Sens will faceoff versus the Lehigh Valley Phantoms at the PPL Center in Allentown on Wednesday, February 18, at 7:05p.m. before returning home to play the Hershey Bears at 7:05p.m on Friday, February 20.
