Hamilton Bulldogs News Release
HAMILTON, ONT. - The Hamilton Bulldogs (25-19-6-0) had seven goals from seven different scorers in a 7-5 win over the Utica Comets (29-14-5-1) at FirstOntario Centre on Monday afternoon. The offensive outburst marked the first time the 'Dogs have put up seven markers in a game since Feb. 19, 2012, when they defeated the Rochester Americans 7-3.
Hamilton had multi-point games from forwards Sven Andrighetto (one goal, three assists), Gabriel Dumont (one goal, two assists), Charles Hudon (three assists) and Jake Dowell (two assists), as well as defenceman Bryan Allen (one goal, one assist).
The scoring started just 1:27 into the first period when Bulldogs forward Daniel Carr found a rebound off a point shot by Allen and slid it past Comets netminder Joacim Eriksson. Carr's team co-leading 15th goal of the season was also assisted by Andrighetto.
Utica got on the board at 11:01 of the opening frame when forward Will Acton dangled one past Hamilton goaltender Mike Condon. Forwards Alexandre Grenier and Darren Archibald collected assists.
Just 30 seconds later, 'Dogs forward Nick Sorkin finished off a perfect passing play around the Comets goal with Dowell and Dumont with his sixth goal of the season from the slot to give Hamilton a 2-1 lead, which they held through the end of the first period.
The middle frame saw a seven-goal eruption - four goals by the Bulldogs and three by the Comets - which left the 'Dogs ahead 6-4 after 40 minutes.
For Hamilton, forward Sahir Gill notched his third goal of the season at 4:16, defenceman Bobby Shea tallied his first of the year at 6:13, Allen potted his first of 2014-15 at 8:31 and Andrighetto buried his 11th of the season to cap off Hamilton's second-period offence at 12:24. For Utica, Archibald, forward Dustin Jeffrey and defenceman Bobby Sanguinetti replied in the second stanza. Five of the seven second-period goals came in a 4:15 span before the period was nine minutes old.
Comets defenceman Travis Ehrhardt made it a 6-5 game at 8:11 of the third period, assisted by forwards Alex Friesen and Nicklas Jensen.
Dumont ripped a shorthanded, empty-net goal from the defensive zone for his team co-leading 15th goal of the season with four seconds to go to seal the 7-5 win for Hamilton. Dowell had the only assist.
Condon made 27 saves on 32 shots for the Bulldogs in the win, while Eriksson stopped 15 of 21 shots faced for the Comets in the loss.
Hamilton went 0-for-3 on the power play, while Utica was 0-for-4 with a man advantage.
