MANCHESTER, NH - The Manchester Monarchs, the primary affiliate of the Los Angeles Kings, have donated $1,000 scholarships to Keene Middle School for an LCD projector for their Social Studies Department and to St. Anthony School for a new volleyball team as part of their Investing In Our Youth grant program, the team announced on Wednesday.
Through the program, the Monarchs Care Foundation, the charitable arm of the Monarchs, is able to award two different $1,000 scholarships each month. One of the scholarships goes to a deserving youth sports team. The other scholarship goes to a deserving school organization.
The Monarchs are currently taking applications for the program. Athletic and educational organizations are encouraged to apply. For an Investing In Our Youth grant application, visit www.monarchshockey.com and click on "In The Community" or contact Cheryl Abbott, the Monarchs Vice President of Community Affairs at (603) 626-7825, extension 6102.
Keene Middle School will use the grant money to purchase an LCD projector and its related equipment for their Social Studies Department. This purchase will engage and positively impact the 776 students ranging in age from 11-14 by allowing them to view world-wide historical photos and locations, works of art, maps, graphs, charts and much more with the large screen.
St. Anthony School is starting a new volleyball league and will use the grant money to purchase equipment for the league including volleyball standards, nets and balls. The new volleyball program will benefit approximately 170 children in third through sixth grade and encourage them to be healthy and active for life.
The Monarchs will host the Toronto Marlies for the first time in franchise history on Friday, January 27. Face-off is scheduled for 7:35 p.m. at the Verizon Wireless Arena.
