Pirates Announce Plans for "A Day of Hockey" at the Civic Center

PORTLAND, ME - Today the Portland Pirates Foundation officially announced that "A Day of Hockey" will be held on February 19, 2006, at the Cumberland County Civic Center. The event is being held to raise money for The Barbara Bush Children's Hospital at Maine Medical Center. It will include the Salty Pete's "Skate for the Kids" fundraiser. "A Day of Hockey" is hosted by the Portland Pirates, Cape Elizabeth High School Boys Hockey, and Cheverus High School Boys Hockey. The event is supported by the Cumberland County Civic Center and Cold Stone Creamery.

"A DAY OF HOCKEY" SCHEDULE AT THE CUMBERLAND COUNTY CIVIC CENTER

9:00 a.m. - 11:30 a.m. Salty Pete's "Skate for the Kids" (2½ hours)

12:00 p.m. - 2:30 p.m. "Clash of the Classes": Cheverus High School vs. Cape Elizabeth High School

4:05 p.m. - Portland Pirates vs. Hartford Wolf Pack

During Intermissions: High school players from around the state will compete in two skills competitions during each of the two intermissions during the Pirates game. The four skill contests will be for the hardest shot, fastest skater, shot accuracy and stick handling/agility. Post Game: Continuation of Salty Pete's Skate (1 hour)

For a donation of $25 per fan or $50 per family, participants have the chance to skate for at least one hour and receive an official Salty Pete's Super Skate T-shirt. Fans will still be allowed to skate without making a donation. Attendees that choose not to skate can still make a donation, and show their support for The Barbara Bush Children's Hospital at Maine Medical Center by visiting the main lobby and signing a big "get well" card for the kids at The Barbara Bush Children's Hospital at Maine Medical Center. To help The Barbara Bush Children's Hospital, everyone is encouraged to bring new and unused toys, such as craft kits and movies rated G, PG and PG-13 as well as other gifts to the Civic Center to donate to The Barbara Bush Children's Hospital at Maine Medical Center. The Huskies Youth Hockey Program will also be selling discounted Quarter Deck tickets for this game leading up to the event in an effort to help raise funds for the Barbara Bush Children's Hospital at Maine Medical Center. In addition to their fundraising efforts the Cold Stone Creamery locations in Portland and Brunswick will donate $.50 for every cone and $3.00 from every cake from February 13-February 19 to the "Day of Hockey" to benefit the Barbara Bush Children's Hospital at Maine Medical Center.

Tickets for the "Day of Hockey" are available through Huskies Youth Hockey, Cape Elizabeth and Cheverus High Schools, the Barbara Bush Children's Hospital and the Portland Pirates. Fans can purchase tickets online at www.portlandpirates.com/DayofHockey.

Businesses and organizations that support the "Skate for the Kids" with a $500 contribution will be recognized as a "Special Friend," and be mentioned in the Pirates and Barbara Bush promotional materials after this year's event and on the event's web location all year. Sponsors that make a $500 contribution will also be able to display their banner at the Civic Center during the event, and receive two tickets to the Pirates final regular season game. For a $1,000 contribution, the donor will become a "Super Friend" and get all the above plus their company name and logo on the official event t-shirt as well as be introduced at a special on-ice ceremony during the Pirates game on February 19th. The donor will also qualify to be selected to win one of two grand prizes - four season tickets for the 2006-2007 Pirates season. All the proceeds go to The Barbara Bush Children's Hospital at Maine Med! ical Center, through the Portland Pirates Foundation, a 501 (C) (3) Maine public charitable organization. Donation is tax deductible to the extent allowed by the law.

The Barbara Bush Children's Hospital at Maine Medical Center provides and sponsors comprehensive, family-centered health care for the children of Maine and northern New England. The Barbara Bush Children's Hospital key activities include: Collaborative delivery of integrated health care services to children, promotion of children's health, education of caregivers in the principles and practices of healthcare for children, advancement of the knowledge and care of children through clinical research and the treatment of complex medical and surgical diseases in a tertiary care facility.
