Lowell, Mass. - The Carolina Hurricanes announced today they have recalled C Mike Zigomanis from the Lowell Lock Monsters and assigned C Keith Aucoin to Lowell.

Zigomanis was assigned to Lowell on December 13th after starting the season in the NHL. The veteran extended his Lowell team records for offensive production by notching 6g-7a-13pts in 11 games with the club since his assignment in December. He scored his 200th Lock Monsters point with a goal on January 21st in Springfield, and was riding a three-game goal streak (4g-1a-5pts) when he was recalled this morning. Zigomanis is the Monsters all-time leader in games, goals, assists and points.

Aucoin is headed to the RBK Hockey 2006 AHL All-Star Classic in Winnipeg, Manitoba next week. He earned his first call up to the NHL last weekend and returns as Lowell's leader in goals, assists, points, power play points and shootout goals. The Chelmsford native put up an assist in his NHL debut on Monday night, a 7-3 triumph over the Montreal Canadiens. He played in two games with the Hurricanes, also skating in last night's 4-3 shootout win over the Florida Panthers. Despite missing five games from the Lowell lineup this season, Aucoin is the team scoring leader by a 27-point margin.

The Monsters return to home ice to host the Hartford Wolf Pack in the first of a home-and-home on Friday night, January 27th. Game time is 7:35 p.m. and the team will wear its black alternate jerseys. That night is Boy Scout Night with the Lock Monsters, and the U.S. Army will also be in attendance collecting donations for care packages to send to soldiers. The last U.S. Army night held by the Monsters earlier this season collected enough donations for 600 care packages. For a list of suggested items, visit www.lockmonsters.com. The Army will also hold a swearing-in ceremony on the ice during the first intermission.

Lowell plays host to the Toronto Marlies on Sunday at 4:05 p.m. That day, the first 1,500 kids 12 and under will receive a free Lock Monsters Scarf, courtesy of MASSBANK. Also, help Louie the Lock Monster celebrate his eighth birthday! After the game, all fans in attendance can enjoy a free public skate on the Tsongas Arena ice. Approximately 500 tickets remain for Sunday's contest.

All games home and away can be heard live on 980 WCAP, and viewed through B2 Networks, the official broadband provider of the AHL, with the "Voice of the Lock Monsters" Ryan Johnston. Log on to www.lockmonsters.com to watch or listen online.

Individual tickets start at $10 and are on sale now at the Tsongas Arena box office, which is open from 10:00 - 5:30 p.m. Monday through Friday and 10:00 - 2:00 p.m. on Saturdays.
