
Monarchs Add First Rounder Steckel To Roster

MANCHESTER, NH - The Manchester Monarchs, the primary affiliate of the NHL's Los Angeles Kings, on Wednesday agreed to terms on one-year contracts with center David Steckel, forward Lukas Dora and defenseman Beau Geisler. As per team policy, agreement terms were not announced.
Steckel, 22, played in 41 games with Ohio State University last season, recording 30 points (17-13=30) and 44 penalty minutes. The 6-foot-4, 190-pound native of Westbend, Wisconsin, appeared in 146 games with the Buckeyes over the last four years (2000-04), recording 105 points (50-55=105) and 249 penalty minutes. A member of the 2001 and 2002 USA World Junior Championship teams, Steckel recorded one point (0-1=1) and four penalty minutes in seven games during the 2002 tournament and one point (0-1=1) and 14 penalty minutes in seven games during the 2001 tournament. He was selected by the Kings in the first-round (30th overall) in the 2001 NHL Entry Draft.
Dora, 24, played in 42 games with the University of Denver last season, recording 36 points (14-22=36) and 74 penalty minutes. The 5-foot-10, 180-pound native of Lednice, Czech Republic, captured the 2004 NCAA Men's Ice Hockey Championship with the Pioneers, who defeated the University of Maine in the Frozen Four final. Dora appeared in 153 games over the last four years (2000-04) with the Pioneers, recording 97 points (41-56=97) and 177 penalty minutes.
Geisler, 23, played in 39 games with the University of Minnesota-Duluth last season, recording 34 points (9-25=34) and 40 penalty minutes. The 6-foot, 185-pound native of Coleraine, Minnesota, served as an alternate captain and helped lead the Bulldogs to their first Frozen Four appearance in 19 years. The Bulldogs fell to the Pioneers in the semifinal round. Geisler appeared in 159 games over the last four years (2000-04) with the Bulldogs, recording 98 points (19-79=98) and 108 penalty minutes.
The NHL's future stars will converge on Manchester on February 13-14, 2005, as the Manchester Monarchs host the 2005 Dodge AHL All-Star Classic at the Verizon Wireless Arena.
