Barons Sign Four Players

CLEVELAND — The Cleveland Barons announced today the signing of centers Patrick Rissmiller and Josh Prudden, and right wing Jonathan Tremblay for the 2004-05 season. In addition, the Barons signed former Junior Barons center Colin Shields to an Amateur Try-Out contract. Wayne Thomas, General Manager of the Cleveland Barons and Assistant General Manager of the San Jose Sharks, made the announcement.

Patrick Rissmiller, 25, will return for his third season with the Barons. The 6'4", 205-pound center finished fifth on the Barons with 45 points (14-31-45) and fourth on the team with 31 assists in 2003-04. The Belmont, MA native made his NHL debut with the San Jose Sharks last season appearing in 4 games. By making his debut, Rissmiller became the first player from both Holy Cross and the MAAC to appear in an NHL game. In two seasons with the Barons, Rissmiller has posted 85 points (28-57-85) in 147 career AHL games.

Josh Prudden, 24, spent last season with Atlantic City of the ECHL. In 60 games, the 5'11", 195-pound center posted 52 points (18-34-52). Prior to turning professional, Prudden was a teammate of Barons defenseman Garrett Stafford at the University of New Hampshire. In four seasons at UNH, the native of Andover, Maryland posted 33 goals and 44 assists in 131 games. Prudden's best collegiate season came in 2001-02, where, as a junior, he finished sixth on the team in scoring with 30 points (14-16-30).

Jonathan Tremblay, 20, led Acadie-Bathurst (QMJHL) with 316 penalty minutes in 2003-04. In 60 games, the 6'3", 240-pound enforcer scored 3 goals. In 2002-03, the native of Fauquier, Ontario finished second on the team with 232 penalty minutes. Tremblay was selected 201st overall in the seventh round of the 2003 NHL Entry Draft by the Sharks.

Colin Shields, a native of Glascow, Scotland, is no stranger to Cleveland. The 24-year-old center spent two season with the Cleveland "Junior A" Barons of the NAHL from 1998-2000. In his time there, Shields scored 76 goals and 79 assists in 110 games (76-79-155). With 95 points during the 1999-2000 season, Shields led the NAHL in points. The 5'11", 180-pound forward spent the last three seasons with the University of Maine. In 2003-04, Shields led the Black Bears and finished 13th in the nation with 44 points (18-26-44). A member of the Hockey East All-Rookie Team in 2001-02, Shields finished 3rd in the nation with 29 goals and posted a collegiate career-best 46 points.

Per club policy, terms of the deals were not disclosed.

The Barons are set to open the 2004-05 home schedule on Saturday, October 16th at Gund Arena at 7pm against the Manitoba Moose.
