SPRINGFIELD, Mass. ... The American Hockey League announced today its composite 2004 preseason schedule, set to begin next week. The schedule comprises 50 games, to be played between Fri., Oct. 1 and Sun., Oct. 10.

The preseason kicks off with three games next Friday, including the first of six games in the inaugural I-81 Puck Cup tournament, a round-robin challenge among the AHL's three franchises along the Interstate 81 corridor: Syracuse, Binghamton and Wilkes-Barre/Scranton.

The defending Calder Cup champion Milwaukee Admirals hit the ice for the first time on Oct. 5 when they host the Chicago Wolves in Fond du Lac, Wisc.

The Edmonton Road Runners debut with a two-game series against the Utah Grizzlies, to be played at the Bank of America Centre in Boise, Idaho.

The 2004 AHL preseason will also offer the first look at the league's rule changes implemented for the coming year, including a shootout to decide games tied after overtime.

The American Hockey League's 69th regular season begins on Wed., Oct. 13, as 28 teams begin competition for the prestigious Calder Cup.
