San Antonio, TX - The San Antonio Missions defeated the Arkansas Travelers 9-5 on Thursday night at Nelson W. Wolff Municipal Stadium.

Trailing 6-1, the Travs scored twice in the fifth and twice in the sixth to cut the deficit to 6-5, but a three-run Missions seventh put the game away.

Arkansas led 1-0 in the second, but San Antonio scored one in the second to tie the game, plated two unearned runs in the third, and scored three more times in the fourth off starter RHP Harrison Cooney (L, 0-1).

Cooney, who was making his Double-A debut, allowed the six runs (four earned) on seven hits with two walks. Cooney did not strike out a batter.

Down 6-1 in the fifth, RF Cal Towey launched his first home run of the season, a two-run shot, to cut the San Antonio lead to 6-3. Towey added an RBI on a bases loaded walk an inning later and moved into third place in the Texas League with 32 RBIs.

LF D'Arby Myers drove in the Travs run in the second with an RBI double and produced an RBI single in the sixth. Myers finished 2-for-3 with the two RBIs. Myers is 12-for-30 over his last eight games for Arkansas.

RHP Austin Wood retired the first six batters he faced in relief of Cooney, but allowed each of the first three Missions players to reach in the seventh. RHP Austin Adams was called out of the bullpen but all three inherited runners scored. RHP Nate Hyatt worked a scoreless eighth.

DH Sherman Johnson drew three walks in the loss, raising his total to 38 on the season, good for second-most in the Texas League. Johnson also scored a run to add to his league-leading total (39).

C Raywilly Gomez went 2-for-4 for the Travs.

Missions 2B Diego Goris finished 3-for-4 with a run and an RBI.

With the loss, the Travs fell to 29-23 and slid to 3.5 games behind the Northwest Arkansas Naturals in the Texas League North standings. Arkansas will head to Corpus Christi to begin a three-game series on Friday. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. This story was not subject to the approval of the National Association of Professional Baseball Leagues or its clubs.
