San Antonio Missions News Release
San Antonio had another big night at the plate in a series-clinching, 9-5 win over Arkansas Thursday night before a Wolff Stadium crowd of 4,749.
After a scoreless first inning Thursday, both teams plated a run in the second. Arkansas scored the game's first run on an RBI double by D'Arby Myers off starter Casey Kelly. San Antonio answered in the bottom half against right-hander Harrison Cooney on Yeison Asencio's RBI groundout.
In the bottom of the second, San Antonio took a 3-1 lead courtesy of an Alberth Martinez run-scoring groundout and Hunter Renfroe's RBI infield single.
Cooney (0-1), who was making his Double-A debut, ran into more trouble in the fourth, allowing the Missions to score three more times, capped by a Trea Turner RBI single to left center.
Arkansas closed its deficit to 6-3 in the fifth when Cal Towey took Kelly's 1-1 pitch over the wall in right. The two-run homer was Towey's first of the season.
The Travs trimmed the Missions' lead to just one an inning later when they scored twice on Kelly's replacement, Stephen Kohlscheen. Arkansas had a chance to do much more damage in the frame, loading the bases with just one out. San Antonio manager Jamie Quirk opted to make another move to the pen, summoning right-hander Adam Cimber. The decision proved to be a good one as Cimber (2-1) preserved the Missions' lead by getting Brian Hernandez to pop up to second before fanning Wade Hinkle.
After Cimber delivered a scoreless top of the seventh, his offense broke the game open in the bottom of the frame with a three-run rally against relievers Austin Wood and Austin Adams.
Michael Dimock and Tayron Guerrero followed Cimber with scoreless frames to lock up San Antonio's second home series win of the season.
San Antonio (22-30) resumes its six-game homestand Friday when they welcome in the Northwest Arkansas Naturals (32-19) for the first of three. First pitch is slated for 7:05 PM. The first 1,500 fans to enter Wolff Stadium will receive a free Missions Replica Road Jersey courtesy of McCombs Ford West. Reigning TL Pitcher of the Week Justin Hancock (5-1, 2.02) will take the hill for San Antonio, while Northwest Arkansas counters with fellow righty Christian Binford (0-2, 4.42).
